Slowly but surely the perception of our area is turning towards the positive. Such a good thing.

That is great! I think FedEx, the railroad hub and companies like Smith And Nephews started a good base for other companies to come to Memphis.

Very true. And the biggest catalyst for improvement lies in ourselves. And the biggest obstacle has been self-esteem -- the defeatism and self-loathing. The greatest change lately is the defiant pride Memphians have expressed, the willingness to stand up for this community, and no longer accept the doormat status that psychologically is similar to children who are immersed in abusive situations.
Being able to see that organizations such as the Zoo, LeBonheur, the Grizzlies aspired to and then achieved excellence and improvement to nationally ranked statuses establishes an example for individuals and organizations to envision for themselves. No longer accepting second class status and destiny is key to emerging from it.
The external perception follows the self-confidence -- whether it's a person or a community.

FedEx, AutoZone, International Paper, Service Master, Nike, Mitsubishi, Electrolux, Medtronic, St Jude, University of Memphis, CBU, Rhodes, Smith and Nephew, Brother, Target (not only their stores, but their new fulfillment center in Hickory Hill), all the companies at Presidents Island, etc
then you have all the city jobs like Police, Fire, Code Enforcement, etc.
Memphis area has lots and lots of jobs...
North MS also has some big warehouse job set ups...

I mentioned it during the last term or two of Herenton. There are dozens of examples of Memphian that no longer wait or use as an excuse poor govt leadership for not improving their community with a step in the right direction. Dozens if not hundreds of organizations. Thousands of Memphians. Govt ebbs and flows and is not as poor as it was under Herenton, but the region has made discernible, demonstrable strides to improve. Just can't settle, can't return to the concrete bunker with no windows. Keep aspiring and moving toward the goals...
