Guess Johnson's signing meant no playing time for him.

RE: Tyson Batiste
I was wondering if signing all these upper classmen guards would affect Tyson's signing. Sorry to lose him, but better now then after he was here for a year or two. I wish him well.

When they are patient, and stay and learn and pay their dues, sometimes they get to be a part of something special. (See the big guy at Wisconsin this year.)

RE: Tyson Batiste
That puts us back to having ZERO scholarship underclassmen on the roster. An interesting combination of a roster that should be very mature, but still not overly (D1) experienced.

Always tough on a kid when the coach who recruited him is fired. Then you get to wondering if you really are wanted.

I was just wondering today where Batiste would fit in. I was rather surprised when he "recommitted" because I assumed Coach Beard would find someone better. But then I realized how late it was in the recruiting process and he might be glad to have him. However, it obviously didn't take Coach Beard long to recruit "over" him. Mr. Basketball has sure been on the money.

How do we know he left on his own accord. Looks like he may have been recruited over.

That is what will happen to all but a couple a few of the hold overs.

I think Josh, Mariek, and Marius are "safe". Other than that, who knows.

Whoops, forgot Roger. He should be a key player for us this year. Looking back the previous coaching staff did bring in some good players- Josh, Mariek, Marius, Roger, James W. and James R. were all solid Sun Belt quality players. I do believe Coach Beard is upgrading our overall talent level but I do think he wants to sign another big man to complete the deal. Shoshi looks more like a finesse player than a bruiser underneath.

But he had a good record of rebounding and blocking shots, didn't he?

Tyson Batiste
Tyson Batiste, a 6-foot-3 all-state point guard, officially filed the necessary paperwork Tuesday to de-commit from the men's basketball team at University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Batiste's decision came in the wake of coach Steve Shields being fired from UALR in March.

Bastiste said he will attend a post-graduate preparatory school for one year and continue playing basketball. Most NCAA Division I teams have their recruiting classes and scholarship allocations finalized for the 2015-2016 season, which helped sway Batiste toward prep school.

"It was too late for me to really get another school offer that I wanted," Batiste said.

Batiste signed with Arkansas-Little Rock in the NCAA's November early signing period, prior to the start of his senior year at Kickapoo.

Batiste served as Kickapoo's chief ball distributor. He led the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game, and five Chiefs players finished the season with scoring averages within 1.1 points of one another. Kickapoo won the Class 5 District 11 championship and ended the season with a 24-5 record.

Shields praised Batiste for his intelligence and leadership ability, and said in November 2014 that Batiste would see minutes at point guard as a freshman.

UALR introduced Chris Beard as its new basketball coach April 8, 2015. Batiste later had a meeting with Beard.

"(Beard) brought in some guys that we wanted to bring in and basically told me that he didn't think I was going to get to play very much as a freshman," Batiste said. "I'm glad he was up front with me."

Batiste will continue working on his game with the Yanders Law AAU program. He said he is in the process of scheduling visits to prospective preparatory schools.

Batiste said he is trying to be positive about prolonging the start of his college basketball career for a year.

"It happens for a reason, so it gives me a little bit of motivation to work a little harder," Batiste said.

Interesting. Couldn't get another decent DI offer.
