If the programs return, will the BOT continue to cockblock at every turn when it comes to facilities? No matter what happens June 1, we will not rest. We need BOT reform. We need a FRW. And we need a new playing facility not named Legion Field.

Im glad he is convinced we will get it back. He clearly undestands how little support ( and interference with our choices of coaches and facilities upgrades ) our football program has gotten from to BOT in the past and what a mess Watts made of this situation.

Getting past the "Us against them" - I've always liked Griffin's common sense
but moving on has always been hard (impossible?) for me. But I guess he is right - time to move on. I'll never forget Gene telling me the Bobby Lee Hurt story on the third green at Liberty Park - his indignation, his frustration. Wanting to fight evil with good but being stone walled by those sworn to keep things fair.

There I go again.

Gotta move on I guess.

Come to our games - just try not to yell "Roll Tide" at the
end of the national anthem. Deal?

Hey - at least I am trying!

You could have just stopped the thread title at "Scott Griffin's Opinion". That's all I needed to read to know it isn't something I care about.

RE: Scott Griffin's Opinion on UAB Football
Griffin has been a big critic of UAB and he has never paid attention to the realities that have thwarted us, although he clearly knows about them. Still, he is taking our side here which shows just how far in the right we are. I noticed he claims to have "sources" that tell him UAB football is coming back. I hope his sources are right.

The Watts camp is dead silent right now.

RE: Scott Griffin's Opinion on UAB Football
I'm generally not a fan of Mr. Griffin, who I consider a journeyman sports hack, but he makes some good points. There is no new stadium with the deal, so you might as well embrace Legion Field. More importantly are his marketing points. There will be 50,000 (I hope) and an ESPN audience for the return of the Blazers. After that, there is going to be a mightily struggling football team which will be lucky to win three games while the UA and AU's of the world are on TV and front pages news every other day.

This will still be a struggling program playing at a dilapidated old stadium, even with the positive press that goes with it. I am hopeful there will be a lot of people who have seen how close we've come to losing the whole thing will get with it and be here for the duration. I know I am.

The big thing we'll need is for recruits to buy into the program while the hype is still there. After that, we'll settle into the reality of building. With great recruits, it'll turn our way quickly.

One main question is, will Clark come back with Watts still here?

Good points in that segment. That said, the OCS MUST be part of a reinstatement effort. It doesn't have to be announced on the heels of football's return, but a clear plan of action has to be outlined. To capitalize on the passion and momentum (and, honestly, to make it easier for the casual fan to stomach what could be some very brutal rebuilding seasons), people need to see that proverbial light at the end of Legion Field's tunnel.

RE: Scott Griffin's Opinion on UAB Football
The OCS, as desirable as it is, is not the top item on UAB football's list of priorities, maybe not in the top 5. The top items are the facilities promised to FBHC Clark when he was hired that will assure our players of a practice field that is reliable in its footing, locker rooms that show pride in our team and perhaps an enclosed practice facility for foul weather safe practice.

I don't know all the bells and whistles that a modern program needs to have, but the list of what some of the better state high schools are building is a good start.
