Chad Lott chooses Owls and Rhoades
At a signing event in his Shreveport HS gym Chad Lott signed with the Owls. A 3 star rated player he had been touted as going to LSU or Tech. He also was recruited by SMU, Creighton, UH, and others. He is a 6'3" 175 lbs point guard who is in the style of former Owl Robert Johnson. Averaged 23 pts and 12 boards per game this past season.

Before the season, his choices were LSU, SMU, Creighton, Houston, UNLV, and Texas Tech. After the season, the options were down to Louisiana Tech, Nevada, and even Grand Canyon.

Great news! Looks like a real nice pick up. Since he's listed as class of '15, I assume he is part of next year's freshman class. Anybody know why he signed so late? I was thinking this is rather late to get such a high-quality signee.

Guess I should have waited for your post before asking my question. Still, I'm very happy he's coming to Rice.

Chad Lott says he was recruited by a lot of big name schools but some schools aren't as genuine as others. Says waiting to choose was best.

Hey, even if that's true, I'll take a recruit that Nevada and LA Tech want any day! They've had a helluva lot more basketball success than us!

Great kid. No idea why he waited but other schools could not wait and moved on reducing his options

One article I saw said he made it known at the beginning of the season he was going to wait until HS basketball was over. I've never seen that in basketball, only football.

#4 recruit in Louisiana is nothing to sneeze at. I think I had mentioned I would like to see another guard on campus too so I think it's a great get.

The link to the signing announcement in the Shreveport paper is good when he finally settles in and is asked questions by the media folks. Very measured answers and definitely seems to have followed the plan he set out for the decision. The video itself is a bit of a pain because you view it through Periscope an app to allow streaming via Twitter. You can't fast forward or skip ahead so there is a lot of bantering from the media folks before the announcement.

He said Rhoades wanted him to not only be able to push the ball but also to rebound and from the wing. He apparently was one of the taller players on the team so he was used to guarding big and little players which should help us a lot.

In the press questions Chad was asked about La Tech and he said that White and staff had scouted him but never offered and he knew it wasn't the place for him.
He also said Rice coaches had been at almost every game of his Sr year.he said he wasn't keen on Rice early but as he got to know the coaches and what he experience on his visit brought the Owls into play more significantly. He also had high praises for JK and te advising team. He found that the whole athletic dept worked as a team something he hadn't seen elsewhere.

On the other hand, he was named the MVP for the entire state (all levels) by the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association and was a McDonald's All-American Nominee (one of 9 from Louisiana). Both of those based on his senior year in HS, so I wouldn't read too much into the "after the season" options. Rated #5 player in Louisiana by ESPN and 247sports, plus the #4 recruit in the state by NOLA.com.

He, without a doubt, makes Rice better. Exciting times to cheer for Rice basketball!

Just keeps getting better and better for Rice men's basketball. Wow.

Lott is good for us because we need taller guards to defend shooters on the perimeter. The fact that he seems like he can fill multiple roles is a huge bonus.
