I didn't say anything.

I actually prefer Damon to anyone else, but it sure is sudden and strange based on his comments...less than TWO weeks ago.

If you have plans of pushing someone out, you don't tell them until you have a better replacement in place.

Stoudamire's two sons live in Atlanta, and that's the primary reason for the move to Memphis. His relationship with Josh Pastner also key.
I don't believe for one minute that his sons living in Atlanta was a "primary" reason for the move. Damon has enough money to see them whenever he wants
Apparently Josh has such a good relationship with him that he had no idea he was coming per his "no significant staff changes" comment recently. Which was either a total lie or Josh had no idea it was happening.
Josh was probably helping the assistant get the best deal on his next job ---
'They want me back at Memphis, but Ill come to your place for the right $$ '
is a lot better than:
'They have Damon Stoudamire coming in and I need a job, They are runing me out of Memphis'

I don't know nothing about this situation...but what Pastner said sounds a lot like what we were told to say publicly by company lawyers when anyone asked us to provide a recommendation for a former employee.
All recommendations read the same, no matter how good or bad the person actually was at doing his/her job.

Exactly, this is because you can be sued if you say something bad and it costs the person a job. Just think about an employer at a big company saying something about a former employee that prevents them from working and they lose their house because of it. NOW....think about how that is going to play in front of a jury at trial!! Best not to go there. Your lawyer was right and we were always advised to refer all questions to the HR Dept where they are trained to handle the situation. I think the standard response is...."They worked here from (date) to (date) and they are eligible for rehiring." That's about all the big companies can say. So, you have to dig a lot deeper....Facebook pages....former co workers....customers.

Neither says he's "a dummy".
If he was unaware or didn't know, that makes him ignorant.
Let's think this through. If you have 3 assistant coaches and you plan on making a staff change down the road...the smartest thing Josh can do is say..."I am going to make a major staff change in a few weeks or months." I am sure that would be the proper way to handle it. Exactly why would anyone in their right mind think you would not just keep it to yourself and continue with keeping the hiring and replacement process confidential?
Maybe Bowen read the staff changes thread and reread his job description thanks to you and decided it was time to call upon his authority and force a change...
Actually, based on Bowen's job description it could very easily have been a review by Bowen and Pastner of the assistant coaches and a mutual agreement that bringing Stoudamire back to work with the guards was a good idea. Based on our problems at that position, this seems totally possible. Thus a four pronged attack at the problem.....(1) eliminate a guard who is not cutting it (Pookie)..(2) bring in better guards to replace that guard.. (3) bring in a good coach to work with the guards....(4) use that coach to develop the guards with specific emphasis on Kedren Johnson. Seems like a good plan to me. Seems a lot more thoughtful and more of a problem solving approach then the in depth idea of "Lets fire a winning coach and buy out his contract tomorrow because that is the only solution I can perceive of with my limited mental resources!!"
Hey, no fair using logic!

Agree, but I think he was asked about bringing in new staff.

What then should he have said then? 'Who knows if these guys are going to be here?' - 'these guys are still our coaches as of today but maybe not in 2 weeks, we'll see' - 'we're working on getting someone else so one of these guys will have to go, if it doesn't work out with hiring a potential hire then these guys are safe'
Geez! Get over it

Didn't know those were his only comment options.
Maybe a simple "No comment" or "No plans at this time" or "Next question", etc.
There's nothing to get over. His words just ring false. Really false.

Regardless, the way all this has played out and choices around communication - all parties involved; not just CJP - is confusing.

From GP:
The specifics at Memphis are still being worked through, a source told CBSSports.com. But Stoudamire will replace one of Pastner's fulltime assistants. On that note, it's worth mentioning that two of the Tigers' current assistants (Keelon Lawson, Robert Kirby) are related to Dedric and K.J. Lawson, the heralded brothers set to enroll at Memphis; one (Aki Collins) is not. So the most likely scenario has Collins as the so-called odd man out.

I think Damon is coming in to be the LEAD assistant...So I would guess that whomever the current lead assistant is, is gonzo.
