BJ Tyson had the 7th highest Player Efficiency Rating in the AAC last year and is one of the top 4 or 5 returning players in this league. We beat you guys because he went off and scored 18 points in 24 minutes, not because we hit 3's. Heck we were 4-19 that day for 21% from outside. He's our best scorer by far and doesn't shoot many three's. His game is almost all getting to the rim and line so we do have diversity in our offense if we actually maximized it to it's fullest and a stud in this conference by any standard, much less a young one.

The bigger question about improving is maximizing the talent we do have and will Lebo actually play one of the elite players in this conference more than 24 minutes a game this year. If so we have a chance to improve. Pretty much as simple as that and our coach getting his head out of his ass.

Tyson making Boatwright look like a lame defender. He gets to the rim at will.

At the top of the conference, UConn still has to prove they be a good regular season team. It has been a long time since the Huskies dominated the regular season. Memphis should bounce back in tournament contention this season.

You realize ECU beat UCF THREE times last year right? Not sure why they would all of a sudden be better than us.

its called recruiting and adjusting

usf played with a depleted roster as half the roster transferred out when they brought in a new coach, and actually played without the best player that remained for half the season due to injury ....
next year they add 4 recruits (2 4star), had a former 5star sitting out from transfer rules who will be eligible and add a Gonzaga grad transfer
not even mentioning there coach will be on his second year =better acclimated, the athletes to used to his system and his improvement on his players

ucf adds 4 recruits all of which are higher rated than any ecu is bringing including the tallest active basketball player in the world

so yes, that is why "they would all of a sudden be better than ecu"...basketball changes dramatically year to year because single players can completely change the dynamic of everything (adding or losing)..you can't use previous years as sole justification from reasons you think you'll be better the next year

there is no reason besides fandom to think ecu will be dramatically better next season, and some legit reasons to think they could be worse ....

me personally i dont think ecu got worse, i just think everyone else in the league got better (or is already good)...i think ecu got passed up by the teams below them who on paper have legit reasons as to why they could be dramatically better next year..

but the game in played on the court, im speaking pure analysis..your lower rated recruits might end up better, tyson or tejada could some how jump into the elite level year 2 after acclimating ..who knows, but on paper its not looking great for ecu next year

We picked up a JUCO PG off the #1 JUCO team in the nation that averaged close to 15ppg and 4apg and shot 42% from 3 both years while there. To me he's a much better sounding fit beside of Tyson in the backcourt than with Whisnant starting beside one of our returning PG's as poorly as they played and Tyson off the bench again.

Whisnant leaving likely gets Tyson on the court more which is nothing but positive considering Lebo wouldn't play him much last year, and the JUCO guy already sounds better than any of our other PG's we were going to put out there starting.

I think we improved, especially the fit of this team myself and upgraded our starting 5 overall just by getting Tyson in it and a pretty proven PG. Unfortunately Jeff Lebo is still controlling who plays so all bets are off and underachieving is still most likely.

At least now top 150 seems possible as pathetic as that is this deep in his tenure. If Whisnant hadn't left and opened up more time for Tyson and allowed us to upgrade at PG I think there was little hope of improving even that much.

The JUCO point guard is not a proven player at the D1 level. Whisnant was. Maybe the JUCO ends up being solid for ECU; that is an unknown, but what was known was that Whisnant was a very solid contributor.

Pesik, he said UCF, not USF #1. Also let's see what they actually do on the court. Our highest regarded recruit played like $hit and our no star no body recruit was one of the best players in this league as a freshman. That happens pretty often which is why you see a ton of transfers many of which were overrate going down levels or nowdays under rated and tranfering up.

I don't know what you were watching but Tyson is already elite and one of the best players in this conference. His talent isn't the problem, it's if Lebo is actually going to play him this year and he has a history of doing this with Maurice Kemp a few years ago and Richmond who were all conf studs, signed NBA contract etc, broke NCAA records etc. Tyson will be the #3 WTF was he doing on the bench.

Also adding a PG from #1 JUCO team in the nation comes with a little more certainty than adding freshman most of the time. The JUCO we added will likely be a great fit with Tyson in the backcourt an can play on the ball or off spotting up off the ball or handling it. He hit 130 three's at over 42%. That's a pretty transferable stat from level to level. Just need Lebo to play our best players but I have little faith in that at this point.

UCF sucks. UCF had better talent than ECU last year, but they got owned by ECU; again. Btw, ECU upgraded pretty good too, especially on the interior; but losing Whisnant was a bad thing. Barkley should be a pretty good freshman player for ECU, but as usual it is hard to tell about those things until the lights go on.

Say what?

UConn was in the top 25 both years they won the national championship recently. Had great regular seasons in both 2011 and 2014, also 2009. Obviously, the idiotic ban hurt them in 2012 and 2013. I see two bad regular seasons in the last 6 years, and that's 2010 and 2015.

I know the media keeps repeating the idea that UConn came out of nowhere in 2011. But if you look at their OOC schedule, they played Michigan St, Wichita St, Kentucky, Harvard, Texas, Tennessee, and they won them all.

Outside the BE regular season, UConn's record was 23-0. They were ranked top 10 for the first half of year, top 20 for the second half, then before the tournament, they were top 10 again. In fact, the ESPN brackets (tens of millions of them) had UConn as the 4th most popular pick to win it all.

The sports media world keeps making them out to be a darkhorse in those years, but 23-0 outside the conference regular season is not an accident. Especially given the high caliber of teams.

That maybe true but Whisnant wasn't proven at PG and didn't play PG and every minute he got was at the expense of Tyson who Lebo was playing him over which kept our best player off the court. It could very well end up being an upgrade just getting him along with an upgrade at PG on the court than our returning PG's and Whisnant starting and Tyson on the bench again. I think that's entirely possible fi not likely in this case. Usually guys that averaged 15ppg on the #1 JUCO team in the nation can be counted on to some degree as well.

I think he'll end up being in the conversation as one of the best newcomers and with Tyson, White and the JUCO we now have a solid perimeter that actually fits and mask's each others weakness. For example White is **** rebounder, Tyson is very good rebounder for a SG etc. Foster and White should be good shooters spotting up when Tyson is getting to the rim. You shot 42% on 130 three's in JUCO you can likely make an open shot. That is proven and a fairly transferable stat.

Our freshman guards averaged 30 min per game. They were gases by the end of the year due to a short bench

LOL at some of the ecu fans getting all uppity. Iv noticed over the years reading comments by ecu fans that they are by far the best off season team in history in all sports (houston is up there too though thats mostly football). Seriously though, ecu is better than UCF right now and both should be better next year but the problem is the rest of the conference will be better too and I don't think either team will get out of the bottom tier next year. Yes, ecu fans, I do think you'll be a little better than us next year so calm down.

Weak. You really need better conditioning if that were even remotely true because playing 30 minutes in college basketball is nothing. There are players that basically never leave the court in college basketball and averaged 39 minutes a game.

Hell 37 year old 300lb players like Wilt Chamberlin played 45 minutes a game with a 24 second shot clocks and far more possessions and higher pace, not 35 seconds ones like in college at even slower pace today. They did it with 4 games a week, 1970 travel and sports recovery and in Chuck Taylors shoes for 82 games a year and another 20 in the playoffs.

It's joke any time people try to honestly say a 18 year old gets tired playing 30 games 30 minutes a game with a 35 second shot clock and a couple games a week when their decades of data of old ass men playing 38+ at almost a third or more possessions rate. Duke had 7 or 8 players on scholarship and you didn't see them complaining about minutes.

This wussy minutes restriction crap is only a recent NBA phenomenon and it's not even comparable to college playing half the games or less in about the same period and and almost half the possessions in them.

Wilt Chamberlain also bedded 20,000 women during that time according to him. Must've been the shoes.
