The LHN is the reason the big 12 almost imploded....

No it wasn't. The b12 almost imploded because of unequal revenue sharing. Texas wanted to do a network with a and m and was rebuffed. They also wanted Nebraska to be part of it. Then everyone started leaving. Texas and company were going to go to the PAC and were sued by Baylor. The PAC didn't want ok st and this offered a way to keep tx happy and the b12 together. Everyone got access to their own tier three rights. Tx was the only one who could justify going it quasi alone. The original plan was to show tx hs football as an out because it rolled up to the ut system. Then everyone else started complaining and blocked the hs part because of recruiting advantage concerns.

What the heck do you think the LHN did for revenue sharing? Made it more equal?

The LHN was the catalyst behind the split. The inequality laid the framework, the LHN lit the fuse. After Texas went down that road, everybody bailed.

What big time program is going to give up a lucrative home game to go to Austin to play texas on the LHN?

This isn't like playing at Notre Dame where the game will be on NBC. You are talking about the LHN that ESPN struggled to get on a lot of Texas carriers when it first came out. I knew it took them a little while to get it on in Houston ....

True. They're lucky they get to put the likes of Kansas and Iowa state on that channel now.

Texas will join the ACC along with Tulane. That's right, Tulane. Texas and Tulane will become the Academic strength of the ACC. This will also make people complain that Tulane caused the downfall of the Big 12. Thus Tulane will have caused the downfall of both the Big East and the Big 12.

As Tulane bats her eyes at the B1G. The B1G will stand and shudder, for they know what will come of their flirtations! 05-stirthepot

Personally, I don't want in the B12. Originally I did just for the money, but I really don't like the travel situation but the thing that really seals it is how it's ran. How many times has Bowlsby reneged? That conference is dysfunctional. Furthermore, the happenstance that would need to take place for many of us to get invited what be pretty much a meltdown of the conference with its biggest members leaving. I wouldn't want to leave this conference for essentially a Midwest version of the AAC.

If we ever hope to play for a championship we need the autobid to move up the food chain

Taking money and bowls out of the equation, on a pure fan travel perspective, those B12 destinations are awful. Ames Iowa, Lubbock, Waco, Morgantown, two in Oklahoma... Yeah I know some of them are big time programs, but god awful travel situation for a fan. I'd rather have our cities, more fun to party. B12, you spend a ton of money to travel, zero direct flights, and you see a game. That's it. No Beale street, French Quarter, Beaches, Disney, etc etc.

I wonder sometimes what our ceiling is... I know we'll get more TV money, 5-6 mil probably soon... Frankly, that's probably enough to keep within striking distance of the P conference, and bury the SBC, MAC, etc.

I know we'll get better bowls. I don't know HOW much better, but better than this. All this shortly once we've got a bit of stability and history. Can we get a bowl with better than a 6-6 P opponent? Will they let us have that?

But can we ever tie to a new years bowl? Honestly I doubt it, they will NEVER let us get that close... but fun to dream.

Let us transfer the network to the AAC or share it with them!

If the Big goes totally with Fox, you just may see Northern Expansion for the AAC and a huge Raise while a certain Mouse tries to undermine the B1G.

Other then that, we're screwed. We'll be kept at the kiddies table like the visiting Teen at Grannies house on Thanksgiving. 07-coffee3

Direct Tv or CBS Sports needs to give the AAC its own network. It is all about money. Get our wealthiest donors to alumni to fund the advertising from their corporations and we are there.

All of our fortunes rest with how successful fox is regardless of whose side we are on.

You bring up an interesting view, Bull

I wonder if this TV $$$ revenue greedy grab behavior and them calling themselves the so called "p5" is to help bring additional funds to their much needed hungry depleted tiny towns.

stone cold truth. i know my little group of friends are already starting to game plan our road trips for this fall and we've already decided that to go to the Kansas game, we are going to have to just stay in KC, then drive over to Lawrence on Saturday. being able to actually STAY IN and enjoy the town your game is in is something i guess we take for granted because this trip will just be a pain in the butt.

That's why we should have focused this conference solely on markets (and ECU). So many more options being in cities.

How's that doing for the ACC and CUSA? You have to expand with product on the field first and foremost. A team can't help where they are placed in regards to population density, but they can help what they put on the field during game day. Continued success brings about passionate alumni who bring about national ratings as they move on to the real world and move away from the college. The TCU/Boise/ECU effect.

The Big 12 could take BYU, Boise, ECU, and Cincy to improve their football 10 fold while also giving Kansas two more top basketball opponents in BYU and Cincy. It's a win/win as it would also be the move that makes Texas go Indy so the Big 12 can then pick UCF and create the Big 12 Network with several east coast states, Florida, and Texas along with the Midwest.

Calm down. I included ECU. I'm saying that we should have focused on schools in big cities with stadium options that are easy to fly to with other things to do.

My 'Murican conference looks like this. 6 games in division, 2 game against the other division for football. Only 1 cross country trip per year which can be at the beginning of the season.

'Murica East
UConn
Cincinnati
Memphis
ECU
Navy
USF
UCF

'Murica West
Houston
Colorado State
BYU
Air Force
UNLV
Fresno State
San Diego State

Texas is the big block in that Jenga tower. The whole reason ECU and UCF were able to get invited the former BE is cause the B12 didn't collapse. Otherwise, theB12 leftovers would've been invited and we'd still be in cusa. If the B12 hadn't allowed Texas to create the Longhorn network, Texas would've bolted to the Pac12. So it's a catch 22 the network allowed UT to stay but basically alienated everyone else in the conference and hampered the conference revenue in the process.

I'm aware but I just hate this fascination on markets. SEC has a ton of small markets but every member performs well in at least one of the three seasons (Fall = Football, Winter = Men's and Women's Basketball, Spring = Baseball/Softball).
