Outrageous to think Rice would ever waste her time being president of UAB. There about infinite reasons why it would be a bad (personal) decision for her to take the job.

What power would she have to do anything about the board?

I don't know why all of a sudden everyone is talking about her in relation to UAB. You guys overestimate what she can do. She's not the Second Coming, she was George W. Bush's Secretary of State and National Security Advisor. During one of the most disastrous times in the history of our national security and foreign affairs, no less. She'd be a huge name and get UAB on the map just by virtue of who she is (which is why she will not leave Stanford for UAB or UA in the first place), but I would not automatically say she'd be a good President.

And exactly how would she do that?

I don't know if you've noticed, but the UA Board of Trustees is damn-near bulletproof when it comes to public pressure.

The minute she got crossways with them, she'd be out of a job, and no amount of tearing of clothes and gnashing of teeth would stop them.

They are unaccountable to anyone and do not care what anyone thinks about anything.
