RE: RIP B.B. King
Sad news. It is made even sadder hearing reports a few weeks ago that friends such as Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton were prevented from visiting him. Hope that was untrue, or if true, then it was rectified.

You know these days come -- for all of us -- but it's still sad. How privileged the world is for cultural pioneers such as him. At least he is immortalized as a defining sound of one of America's greatest contributions to global culture -- music.

The Thrill isn't gone. I still get it every time I hear his music.

From "Riding with the King" with Eric Clapton:

"I stepped out of Mississippi when I was ten years old
With a suit cut sharp as a razor and a heart made of gold.
I had a guitar hanging just about waist high
And I'm gonna play this thing until the day I die."

Don't care when you go
How long you stay
Good time treatments
Bring you back someday
Oh but someday, baby
I ain't gonna worry my life any more

Ain't but one thing
Give me the blues
When I've worn a hole
In my last pair of shoes
Oh but someday, baby
I ain't gonna worry my life any more

.
When asked about his best work, King has said, "I know the critics always mention Live & Well or Live at the Regal, but I think that Indianola Mississippi Seeds was the best album that I've done artistically."

I bought this album in the fall semester of 1971 at the Memphis State Bookstore in the basement of the Student Center.

Still as fresh & vibrant today as it was then. Quite an all-star cast playing on it.

One of the truly great men. He brought all kinds of people together with his music. Art's gotta come from within to do that. There's plenty of musicians around that are technically good, but not many BB's.

A true King.

Live and well, I wore that one out. That was my favorite B.B. album. Sad day.

I love all the jacklegs on facebook with their BB King blah blah blah stuff, knowing full well 90% own zero BB King music and have nothing on their music players. 90% can name thrill is gone as the one song (Maybe "When Love Comes to Town).

Damn posers.

Same folks that were all "Oh, Maya Angelou you will be missed so much" when they don't have a single book of hers on a book shelf or on a tablet.

Yep.
And all the tweeters who couldn't wait to make their "The Thrill is gone" tweet, thinking they are the first person to make that "clever" comment. No originality.

BB's gone but his music lives on as long as one person remembers. Probably would take the obliteration of civilization as we know it for BB to be forgotten.
