Keeping an eye on several key baseball tilts tonight,
particularly IVIIJJ on the road against 2nd place NES.

In the battle for eighth place (the last spot in the conference tournament), ODU and FIU (tied for 7th) have a two game lead over WKU, Charlotte, and Marshall. FIU owns the tie breaker over Charlotte and Marshall, so both of those teams would have to sweep to have any chance of passing FIU. WKU is playing FAU, so it will be hard from them to win even 2 of 3. FIU has a reasonable chance of making the tournament even if they get swept.

ODU would lose a head-to-head tie breaker against any of the three trailing teams, so they need to win two at UAB to ensure a spot in the tournament.

Rutgers beats #17 Iowa, 5-3.
Northeastern beats #19 College of Charleston, 5-4 (10 innings).

If Charlotte sneaks past ODU into the tournament, the forfeit will be really important:

“The failure of an institution to comply with the squad
limitation (27 eligible players in uniform) will result in
automatic forfeiture of the game to the opposing
institution. This is not an "appeal play," further, there
will be no delay of the contest to allow a competing
institution to conform to the rule.”

It was determined that Old Dominion inadvertently had
28 players available to them for the series. However,
this is a violation of the regulation. Therefore, a 7-2
victory by Old Dominion has been forfeited. Per NCAA
rules, the game will go in the books as a 9-0 victory by
Charlotte. Conference and overall records for both
teams have been adjusted.

1-0 MTSU in the 3rd.

Well it took me about a week to stop and figure out where "Nes" came from, I think it was a smackdaddy production but I'm not going to look up the originator (just now anyway)..

First Hint: both of these schools have "directional" names and are in contention for the top 3 in the regular season conference standings.

Sun should be just down in Murfreesboro, and although Weather Underground says it's mostly cloudy, I remain convinced that there are stars in the southern sky.

In other directional scores, Florida Atlantic is pasting KEI by a 9-0 count.
