Not even by Rice's standards but by really just about any standard that you measure any baseball team from tball to the big leagues. It starts and ends with poor defense. Miniscule ability to generate multiple runs with one swing. No baserunning threat that forces a defense to adjust its every day game plan. Despite plenty of arm depth noone that the other team knows the game is over when they see him on the mound. Oh and really poor defense.
I'm not saying they can't have any or all of those. I'm not going to argue their haven't been good performances at times. Baseball is a consistency game though and consistently this team hasn't been very good at much.
Luckily we're in CUSA and it looks like the streak will survive for another year. Here's to hoping for a good senior day, a nice run in June and big time Owl Club numbers haha!!

I think this team is, inexplicably, a head case!
Most of our recent teams have been.

Is he a soft-tossing lefty (or righty, for that matter)? Historically, the Owls seem to have had their worst problems against such pitchers, so matter who "good" they had looked in a stats review.
The biggest problem tonight, though, was allowing the Panthers all those runs, via way too many hits, walks and errors. Gotta reduce all of them.

1. Nunez is NOT a soft-tossing right-hander; he a power pitcher who throws a low-to-mid 90s heater. He's a wild man, however.
2. The biggest problem tonight is we should have had a 2 - 3 run lead heading into the 3rd inning, but due to a couple inexplicable coaching decisions (double steal attempt with no speed on the bases, bunting with 2 strikes when Williamson had not come close to getting one down in fair territory his previous two attempts), and a couple line drive outs, we allowed Nunez to escape unscathed. That gave the entire FIU team confidence...and with Jordan struggling, and our defense doing it's usual thing, that's all it took to light the explosives. IMO, had we scored even one or two runs early-- and not handed FIU free outs, it would have changed the entire tenor of the game.
Yes. And JP had a stat over the weekend I think which was our record when scoring first - even better than one would expect. Get a lead and we play confidently, fall behind and we lose confidence.
We also tend to score more in the early innings. I can live with that one if we can protect a lead with pitching and solid defense.

Consistency is a big problem with this team. Barring an unlikely turn around, the post season run will be very short.
I think we lost because of bad Juju. When you fail to excel in all categories, all game, you were meant to lose that game. This is how it felt to be FAU last weekend. We were hot and they were not. Now we will see if the real owls will step up and reverse the trend. I thought our pitching had finally gotten over the hump the last several games but that was a mirage. I hope we come ready to play today and Saturday and I think the coveted conference championship streak will take care of itself.
Gentlemen get out your voodoo dolls and let's see if we can get our karmic mojo back. As bad as last night's game was, Tuesday was worse. Time to change the juju.

Clearly, the Tuesday night debacle carried over into last night's game, as the entire team played as if they were in a coma. It's time for the team leader(s), whomever they may be (JC, for one, I presume), to play a more vocal role. They need to come together as a team and, as Don Henley wrote, "get over it!" Time to take care of business and find a way to just win, baby!

Goo one, Walt. This is stronger than "Shake it Off." Hope it resonates with our Owls.
Or might there anything inspirational from more recent tunes, with which the guys would be more familiar?
