ACC Basketball in Brooklyn for 2017 and 2018
Adam Zagoria ‏@AdamZagoria 2h2 hours ago Chicago, IL
The ACC Tournament will run March 8-12 at the Verizon Center in DC. Comes to Brooklyn in 2017 & '18.

Don't know if that had been announced before or not. I can hear the outrage in North Carolina from Florida.

Been announced for a while now. You can still hear the outrage. I don't mind the DC year though.

The good news Boeheim has invested in a Bojangles being built across the street so your fans can eat between sessions. 04-cheers

Of course it's just plain stupid to play the ACC Basketball Tournament at any venue other than the Greensboro Coliseum.

I really hadn't even heard of the Greensboro Coliseum until this March.

I think the tournament should rotate between there, New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Indianapolis.

Maybe play it in Florida every few years, too.

Actually the Brooklyn dates were announced in the media around here a while back. It was presented as a positive thing and reaction has pretty much been nothing really. Remember that it is a TV event. There is no outrage as long as we can see the games. Now some of the high dollar donors might have their panties in a wad, but plan ole fans don't really care.

Maybe Florida once every decade. It hasn't been a rousing success down there in the past.

And if it's going to be in NC it needs to be in Charlotte. Better arena and a lot more to do outside of the tournament.

Thats and interesting statement, since a few months back, one of the Carolina folks actually said something to the effect that Greensboro Coliseum is just as well known as MSG.

There is zero reason to play both in Charlotte and Greensboro. So, drop Greensboro permanently and play in Charlotte.

Good I'm glad we can get it up North too. It doesn't always need to be in North Carolina. I'm down for Florida too.

I agree. I don't mind rotating it out of Greensboro from time to time (if only to remind ourselves why we should usually have it in Greensboro), but it should be in Greensboro more years than not.

Out of all the basketball arenas from Boston to Miami, Greensboro Coliseum is the largest neutral court arena. Holding it at smaller arenas leaves money on the table for everyone, even with the new uneven ticket distribution.

I view having it in New York as the same as trying to have it in Florida -- it's out at one of the geographic extremes of the conference, away from center of gravity of the fans. If it's going to rotate, it shouldn't stray north of DC or south of Atlanta very often.

All this reminds me of a conversation I overheard between a Maryland fan and an Ohio State fan at a sports bar a few years ago, after the Maryland announcement but before they left:

Terp: Yeah, the ACC sucks, (blah blah blah, stupid terping omitted) .. and on top of all that they always had their tournament in North Carolina, it was so unfair!

Buckeye: That's ridiculous. North Carolina? Really? Of course we usually have ours in Indiana, because it's central to all the schools.

The look on that Terp's face...

Character is so intertaining the day before and the day after a game.

You really believe that? Why does Coach K play MSG just about every year? You realize Cuse is one of the largest fan bases in College Hoops? Add in the ACC transplants and Pitt, BC fans...BTW, Lville fans travel well to NYC too. It will be filled. The NE is a hoops area unlike Tampa.
