+1 Though it may help get a small raise and a little boost on your next job, it flies in the face of what the MBA experience is supposed to be. It's a money making scheme for schools.
I tend to agree. While the flexibility of online programs may be necessary for some, anyone who has the ability to participate in an on-campus MBA program should do so rather than partake in the online option.
90% of what you learn in an MBA program is learned through classroom discussion and group work. That part is missed by online programs.
I'm not sure you know what qualifies as online MBA. I was a GA during my time in ECUs MBA program and helped with both the "online MBA" and on campus crowd -- they were the same people.
And the people who were entirely online -- some living on military bases outside of the country, even -- were collaborating online. Group work was everything. We used GoToMeeting, Skype, and numerous other software to utilize a virtual classroom. Outside of class time (which there is, this isn't independent study) you schedule meetings with your groups for everything from Financial Mgmt projects to Mgmt Science and basically every other class in the MBA.
This isn't University of Phoenix. And it's not do the work by yourself, turn it in and learn nothing but "book knowledge." You're exactly right, an MBA is group intensive...and while I can't speak for every school, ECU does it the way it needs to be done.

That is good to know about ECU. That's the way online MBAs need to be done - trying to get as close to the campus experience as possible. Unfortunately, my understanding is that many online MBA programs don't go to such great lengths to encourage collaboration. Until there is a set standard, online MBA programs will continue to be viewed with some trepidation.

Dude are you kidding me? You haven't heard of Thunderbird? It's one of the top management schools in the world.
Leave him alone - "ignorance is bliss". By the way, for those who might be wondering, 271 schools offer an on-line MBA, not counting the programs which aren't accredited. I think they serve a practical need and am proud that the Memphis program is highly ranked.

I never meant to insinuate that you should not be proud as being highly ranked is always a good thing. I just believe the concept of an online MBA is the essence of a paper degree. Almost every MBA school follow the the model of group work and relating fellow students past experiences. That is the most valuable aspect of an MBA.

I'd venture to guess in 2015 that a fair amount of MBAs in the real world are collaborating remotely in their daily lives too. At least those of us with global employers.

From Wiki >>
... In its 2014 rankings, published in 2013, U.S. News & World Report ranked Thunderbird as the best international business school in their annual rankings, marking the eighteenth consecutive year the school was named top international business program.[38] In U.S. News & World Report's 2015 rankings, published in 2014, Thunderbird was ranked 85th for best business school, and second in the overall rankings for international business school.[42][43]
You obviously fail to see the humor in having your school named after a cheap whine. Have you ever seen or heard of anyone wearing Thunderbird University apparel? Think about it. It will sink in eventually.
Dude, you really have no clue what you are talking about.
Yep, just when it becomes impossible for the level of ignorance to go deeper for some here they fool you and broaden it out.
How does making a remark about the coincidence of a name being found funny to a poster ignorance. Did I make any insinuation as to the relevance or prestige of the degree's themselves? No! So who now is showing their ignorance and lack of reading comprehension. Just except that you failed to see the humor and showed a lack of understanding by posting your ignorance.
I find it damn convenient that some schools alumni can post all sorts of crap and get zero response's, yet others get bombarded with BS. Damn hypocrites.

Do you get college credits for work experience like the esteemed University of Phoenix?
