Exclamation Tech to travel to UMass in 2016
Tech will probably move the away game at Texas A&M to a future date and now travel to UMass in 2016

Tech's 2016 OOC schedule:
@ UMass
@ Arkansas
vs. Mississippi St.

I'm not sure why we are doing this. Why would LA Tech play an upstart program moving over from FCS on the road? Especially with no mention of a guaranteed return game.

Having such a well known brand will get you awesome deals like this. I'm sure Terry Bradshaw helped pull some strings.

Cute. Touche! Actually, traveling to play UMass in football reminds me of traveling to play ODU. You know....the whole "FCS transition" thing, etc...03-lmfao I understand we have to do it in CUSA. But I don't know why we're doing it OOC.

Not a good opponent to schedule. If we play the game in Gillette stadium, that'll be cool for the players but that's about it. Maybe we are getting them on the basketball schedule in the future out of this whole deal on top of the football games.

Didn't they move up like 4 years ago?

Maybe so. I really don't know. I just know that their football program is not well respected to date. UMass is pretty consistently ranked near the bottom of most FBS polls.

But RonBurgundy brings up a great point: I would love to see UMass basketball come to Ruston for a game. Frankly, that would make everything worthwhile. That would be a very astute move by our AD.

We've got a H-H with them for the '16 and '17 seasons, so it isn't like you're alone in picking a sub-par OOC opponent.

If they play in Gillette, that'll be kind of cool for the players. Also, UMass will be an independent in '16, so they have to buy games. If Umass is giving LA Tech say, 400k and a basketball game, that sounds like a win to me.

This makes it painfully obvious to me that UMass will replace UAB if the Blazers don't bring football back. How can anyone miss that implication? 05-stirthepot

I see it plain as day, now that I have slipped on my brown tinted glasses.

Oh, I agree. It certainly seems to be an indication that UMass has the inside track on replacing UAB in CUSA.

We better NOT add a bum ass program such as UMASS.

I would seriously consider pulling all athletic donations from Marshall if we were to add them.

I like the game. It puts us in an unfamiliar market possibly in a storied stadium. It also allows us to help out an Indy program. The pains of independent football have not dissipated for me and other Tech alumni. Also I hope we can get a H&H in MBB.

I sure remember those days as a football independent for LA Tech. Not pretty. That was a very tough row to hoe. There was no conference title to play for, and no auto invite to a bowl game. And back in those days (the 1990's), there were only 19 total bowl games (I think there's over 40 now.). And most bowls already had conference tie-ins. It was extremely difficult for an independent to get a bowl invite back then.

Scheduling sucked too. I have no problem giving a program a helping hand with an H&H. They will only have 5 home games next season. Sound Familiar??

You bet. I agree. But I don't recall seeing that this is a H-H. I think its a one-way deal. And THAT'S what I don't like about it (so far).

Unfamiliar market. With Techs great brand I thought all US markets were familiar with Tech. 05-stirthepot
