Good questions.

GIVE CUSA TIME, Rice fans. Programs like Charlotte, ODU, UTSA, F_U, will very likely be playing at a reasonably high level by then. They may even supplant Boise (very good recruiting potential). It is my opinion that CUSA will be stronger than the Mountain West by then.

Rice will be a staple of CUSA. Let the MWC promote Texas State.

Sorry, I am not buying any of that. We know Rice needs to improve in all areas (attendance, performance, etc) to warrant an outside look, but if that becomes available IMO Rice needs to leave CUSA ASAP.

Maybe true for 2015, but in 2024 the landscape may well be different. I can see some possibility of Boise coming to CUSA, leaving the MWC as an empty hulk. Sometimes improving where you are is as good as jumping to a better place.

Whether in CUSA, MWC, or some conference not even thought of at this point, yes, it may well be that when these games come around they will be conference games.

I think some people discount how good some of the CUSA programs can become.
UTSA can become a giant in that area (with no direct competition)
UTEP has great support when they are good.
Rice is set up very well to be in a state with peers that have such potential.

The MWC offers another WAC type of experience (Hell, every one of their teams was in the WAC). I think there will be a time that Rice fans revel in being a CUSA school. Anyone that talks crap now should be mindful of what is going on at UAB, and how good Rice has it, being peers with UNT-UTSA-UTEP. UAB is in a state of wolves.

Message board folks were saying the same thing when Rice joined CUSA. At the time it sounded mostly like whistling past the graveyard. But they ended up partly right. Some programs did become decent enough. To move to new conferences.

UAB is in a tough place; no doubt about it. But this is a remarkably poor understanding of Rice's position.
