A high quality basketball player that couldn't get admitted to Kentucky? Get real. What have you been smokin' today Doc?

RE: Nice add for Coach Beard
My post didn't reflect what I was trying to convey. I shouldn't have specified Kentucky. There are probably some larger schools with more difficult entrance requirements than UCA. But one other thought. Wasn't Corliss the coach at UCA at that time? If so, that could have played in to why he signed with them. And as for his 9.3 per game average as a Freshman, how many Freshmen have we ever had that averaged 9 points a game? Not many. Many of our Juniors and Seniors haven't averaged 9 points a game.

I read somewhere a couple of years ago Jalen didn't go to a bigger school because of what some folks called an attitude problem. Not sure why he chose UCA, but everyone acknowledged then it was a huge and unlikely pick-up for them.
At NW Florida, he played alongside Brandon Austin, who spent a year at Oregon before getting accused of sexual assault and being kicked off the team. NW Florida took a risk in picking him up, but after winning the JUCO championship, I suppose it was worth it? Jalen also played with Benji Bell, who just committed to Florida State.
It's a little lengthy, but here's a highlight video of their season. The cuts selected don't really feature Jalen until they're in the NJCAA tournament: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLvUJ...aWQDFd9kXs

I also seemed to recall that "attitude" problems were one of the reasons he ended up at UCA. Didn't want to post that, since I wasn't sure I remembered correctly. Regardless, he hopefully has matured since then and I am thrilled to have him. If Coach Beard feels comfortable signing him, I have no concerns that he will not be a good student-athlete at UALR.

Thanks for posting this. Very good video. Jackson looks like a nice player. Can we sign Benji Bell? That kid can shoot the rock. Actually they had a number of really nice three point shooters. If Jalen has his act together, he'll be a fine player for UALR.

Apparently now we are willing to take risks about the character of our recruits. I don't like it, but I won't take my ball and go home. The more games we win, the more fun I will have. The more arrests we have, the more I will feel like a Gutter -- well, you know.

I believe most programs that win, maybe excluding the Duke's, North Carolinas, Kansas's, etc., take some risks on players.
I heard a pro football coach lately, who was quoted as saying "We'd take Hannibal Lechter if he can play football. I don't want to go that far, but every good basketball player isn't of great character, and every great character basketball player isn't a good player. Have to have some balance.

Duke Kansas and nc do take risks. Coach K had to somewhat be forced to kick off a player of the team this past season because serious accusations of sexual assault.

Well I guess if they can take risks, we certainly can. We have a 50-50 chance of doing well. If the guy plays well and behaves himself, we get a winner. If he doesn't he hits the road.

He was not academically eligible as a freshman at UCA so he sat out and redshifted.
Became eligible in fall of 2013 and played well at times during that year.
Did have some issues and when Coach Pennell was hired he only retained one player: the only one with really good grades.
Hopefully he has matured as a student and teammate and will do well for y'all.
