Correction.... Alex Gunn tossed a complete game gem. Sure he gave up three runs but he allowed your bullpen to get the rest they needed.

Coogs lead UConn 1-0 going to the bottom of the 4th. Lantrip just got out of a bases loaded, 1 out jam to preserve the lead.

Wait, the series starts TODAY?!?!

Is there a reason for this?

No lie, I was prepping supper when 6pm news came on and the sports guy goes "1-1 ECU @ UC in the ____" I was like O_O turned on radio... ate, finished yard work outside with the radio as well. I was anticipating catching the game Friday on the radio.

RE: AAC baseball May 10th the Last week of season
AAC now a three horse race. I believe the breakdown is thus:

Houston: 2-0 wins outright, 1-1 clinches share
ECU: 2-0 wins outright if UH goes 0-2, 2-0 clinches share if UH goes 1-1
Memphis: cannot win outright, 2-0 can clinch share if UH goes 0-2 and ECU goes 0-2 or 1-1.

Memphis: cannot win outright, 2-0 can clinch share if UH goes 0-2 and ECU goes 0-2 or 1-1.

In terms of the #1 seed in the conference tourney (now that Houston is at 14-8):

Memphis gets it if they finish in a 2-way or 3-way tie at 14-10 (which would include Houston either way). Memphis won the series against ECU and Houston, and has the tiebreaker against both. Under this scenario, Houston must finish 0-2, Memphis 2-0 and ECU 1-1 or 0-2.

ECU gets it if they finish 15-9 and Houston finishes 14-10 (because Houston won the series with ECU). This means Houston finishes 0-2 and ECU finishes 2-0.

In other words, Houston's magic number is 1 vs ECU, and 1 vs Memphis (for the #1 seed). Any combination of 1 Houston win or 1 ECU loss eliminates ECU. Same for Memphis.

Houston's magic number is 2 vs ECU and 2 vs Memphis to win the regular season conference title outright.

UConn, USF and Tulane have been eliminated from contention since Houston has 14 wins and the best they do is 13 wins.

If we win tomorrow, Memphis is done. At that point, we either win it outright, or share with ECU.

You really didn't. Our bullpen is very feast-or-famine, and you guys got the famine portion.

I said at the beginning of the season that our bullpen was going to be our achillies heel. Last night is all the proof I needed.

They needed it after Tuesday night's 16-inning close shave (won 2-1 vs lowly UT-Martin). Talk about winning by a hair, we were down 1-0 in the bottom of the 9th, but there were two outs when the batter (had two strikes) BARELY beat out a slow ground ball as a runner scored from 3rd base. And there are people who think college baseball is boring. One of these days, the game is going to catch on and catch on BIG. Glad the AAC will always be in the thick of it.

Outside of the whole "metal bat thing" I never understood why NCAA baseball doesn't seem to interest that many people. The AAC has been really fun to watch this year, and we still have a race for 1st. Does the Lord Baby J curse apply to UH baseball as well?
