We already had control of our destiny, with the tie-breaker against MTSU. However, this gives us a bit of breathing room. As I said, I fully expect red hot USM (now winners of 8 straight) to take at least one game at MTSU next weekend.
Yes, but I don't want a tiebreaker. I want the outright championship. It's in reach, so why not claim it?

2 consecutive home losses and FAU's RPI only falls from #8 to #11?

If #Rice plays defense in the postseason, this is an incredibly dangerous team, IMO. Offense is solid, very good arm options. Scary.

Not a chance. They haven't mentioned us all weekend. In fact, I don't think anyone on that site has mentioned Rice Baseball or tweeted Rice Baseball in over 2 months.

Walt I think you are on to something. If Rice doesn't get run ruled (like we know will happen) the next two games, you could start putting together a resume that is better than Houston's academic cornerstone and several others that are in discussion for the regional host formerly assumed to be FAU. I don't think you have to wait for the FIU series and the conference tournament to make the case. CUSA is the third conference in RPI? Seems like either FAU or Rice ought to be able to make that stick nationally. Good story with ace hurt and have worked back into shape two pitchers, and Johnny Bench Award candidate only DHing. Texas, Stanford, and Arizona on schedule for 11 games let them down. What do you think? As you plant the seeds around the nation, the gap between the current win total and 40 will draw closer, as will Rice's RPI to 20. Again, I think you are on to something (assuming the streak is extended by two).

Win our games and we will be fine. And if we play defense, we will win our games.

13th, I just don't see it unless we virtually run the table through the CUSA tourney (giving us the 40-win milestone at the time of the Committee selection). CUSA is the #8th ranked RPI conference, whereas the AAC is #3 at the moment...and our record vs. the Top 25/50/100 is still going to pale next to too many others. UT has now fallen out of the Top 100, Stanford's at #116 and #96 Arizona will almost certainly fall out of the top 100 after next week's series vs. UCLA, followed by five home games against #179 Hawaii and #219 Abliene Christian.

You could have just said we were doomed...CUSA #8. Dang. Good time of the year to start to heat up.

Didn't see it posted elsewhere, but MTSU split with UTSA today so Rice is now alone at the top of the CUSA. RPI per Warren Nolan is at 25 with 2 upcoming games against teams with higher RPI (FAU and UH).
And in a real pitcher's duel, the Ags score 3 in the B9 to eek out a 15-14 win over South Carolina. 9 HRs hit between the 2 teams.

RE: Rice@FLAtlantic-Saturday Game Thread
How things have changed . . . it wasn't long ago that MTSU was sitting on 4 conference losses and we were already at 7. The last few years, we have always seemed to get the help we need in the homestretch of the conference race. We've already gotten what I had hoped for coming into the weekend -- 2 Rice wins + 2 Meeps wins -- hope we can get the cherry on top tomorrow. And then the Glove on Tuesday.

Stanford scored 3 in the 8th @USC and held on to win, 3-2, evening their series. Washington evened their series @Arizona tonight with a 9-4 win.
