Is it that easy to get the media to call you what you want to be called?

No, it's not...it took a couple of decades to get them to finally begin to refer to us as UAB instead of Alabama-Birmingham.

Charlotte seemed to somehow pulled off the name change relatively quickly though.

All depends on the political climate of the state. In both Louisiana and Alabama that proves to be rather difficult...if they have any reason to fear you.

Birmingham has also pledged $2.5 Million over a 5 year period.

Al.com

Hopefully the support keeps coming in and we can get some big numbers from the business community.

Just ask Middle Tennessee who's been trying to get the media to refer to them as such versus "Middle Tennessee State" or "MTSU". Y'all (Louisiana) are in the same boat when it comes to trying to get the media to respect your brands.

They would only be in the same boat if Middle Tennessee was trying to get the media to call them "Tennessee".

So who in this scenario is the pissed off "Tennessee" when referring to Louisiana? I'd like to know...maybe that is why it's been so hard to officially recognize our name change in 1984.

How sweet would be if not only football was brought back, but also adding an on campus stadium.

RE: UAB Boosters Pledge $6 Million To Revive Football
Regardless of whether or not football is brought back, we have to maintain the pressure on Board of Trustees reform, or else this will happen again (in 5 years).

But they know that bringing football back will remove some steam from the momentum going against the "Trustees". On the other hand, turning away $Millions (my guess is ~$15 million over 5 years by the time we get to the report) will lead to protests in Montgomery, student-led street blockages in downtown Birmingham, negative press nationwide, and alumni with money previously pledged to UAB now being spent to tear as many holes into UAT and the trustees as possible.

This is the moment UAB alumni and supporters have been waiting for for years. It's the reckoning.

And yes to UAB and Birmingham Blazers. We should use "Birmingham Blazers" as the long form of the branding, and "UAB" as the short form.

As long as UAB leaves Ray Watts in charge, the rest of this stuff really doesn't matter. Watts has already proven that you can't trust him. What's it going to take to remove the guy?

A couple of high-profile funerals in the western edge of the state.

RE: UAB Boosters Pledge $6 Million To Revive Football
So the total known pledges have to be around 10 or 11 million over a 5 year period with more coming on Friday. UAB, according to the USAToday college finance site, has raised between 2.5 and 3.5 million per year each of the last 10 years. If the total presented on Friday is double that, the UAB administration would have to take it very seriously. I know that pledges are not money in the bank as there is normally a percentage that is never realized, but that would be a considerable show of support. Good luck UAB!
