My Plea to Everyone regarding the ATF Fundraising Drive
Let's all pull in the same direction for the next two weeks. I am asking everyone to make a pledge and to recruit at least two people to make a pledge. It can be a business. If it is a big business please contact Brad H. They may already be working on hem.

Let's grow our foundation of $6 million we created. DO NOT MENTION ANY GOALY PUBLICLY!

We do not want to be aiming for a moving target. Do not say how much your pledge or the one you have recruited is. You can say I got one. That's fine. Do not say the firm - business's name publicly.

Let's not allow the Watzies to use this information against us.

No matter what you think good or bad I am asking everyone to pull together for two weeks and make this happen. The BlazerNation is family and I can't think of any other family I would want to get in the trenches and fight with that all of you I love you BlazerNation!

If you need a pledge form e-mailed PM me, e-mail brad, or check Facebook, there are a ton on there.

Tweet this message too!

Has anyone thought about doing a crowd funding campaign for a one time lump sum donation? The UAB story would convince a lot of folks to give five 10-20 bucks. It adds up. I could see how the admin would say this type of donation isn't sustainable though.

That's ok. Building coaches offices does not have to be sustainable. One time money is still money.

I don't know what it would take to set up a Kickstarter for it, but its certainly an idea. This is perhaps something that should be planned but held until football is re-established, then put it out there and talk to the guys on Reddit and the like.

I was told by someone working with the Task Force that the pledges they are taking will be utilized as funds toward season tickets or Club level donations when football is restored. Can anyone else confirm that?

Before setting up anything like that, it needs to be acknowledged as legitimate by the university. Anything done from this point forward needs to be acceptable from the get go by UAB.

UAB has a kickstarter-style website platform internally, so they could do it if they wanted to.

I have proposed to Justin the tag line ("Pledge 5, Get 5" Make your 5 year commitment & have 5 others do the same).

Of course some will do more, but this sets a tonr for a minimum kind of effort for each person.

Also would be curious to know the answer to this. I would think this would only help with being able to recruit contributors.

That's not completely accurate. That is the case for the monies raised through the Season Ticket pledge drive in March, but not for this 5-year pledge money. The pledge form says for the benefit of the UAB Athletic Department and specifically the football, bowling and rifle programs. It does not specify tickets or Blazer Club memberships.

No; the pledges are separate from tickets. That was answered after a question from the floor last night. Tickets will be separate. As far as the Club level donations, I believe the levels would be based on the pledge level but call Brad to make sure.

I'm not sure I would donate to anything at this point that is acknowledged by the university administration. I have no faith in any statement they make and would have zero confidence any donation would be spent in accordance with a stated goal.

Depending upon what happens in the next few days and weeks, my opinion may (& hopefully will) change.

Don't know about Club level donations, but this is explicitly a separate issue from season tickets and you are not getting tickets for these pledges. These are just straight donations with nothing in return (except for the return of football)

Well if you don't donate to anything acknowledged by the university then it's all pissing in the wind. Even the football foundation program has to be recognized by the administration. We can't operate the football team without UAB's cooperation. This is all kind of the point of money in the bank vs. pledges.

It's also the point of pledges. As you fill out your pledge make your first payment date "upon the return of the football, bowling, and rifle programs". At the bottom check the box that says that your pledge is cancelled if they are not returned. At that point signing it should be safe.

I just put Jan 1 2016 as the start date, since the contingency says the pledge is void if football is not reinstated by Jan 1 2016.

We are shooting much higher than the price of season tickets. People will be buying their tickets separately, Im sure. I doubt that the donations will be considered as anything other than a straight donation, which will be fully deductable insofar as income taxes are concerned in that they will probably not result in some 'benefit' back to the donator that would reduce their tax benefit.
