The question that I have, and have commented on several times in the past several months is, "Why has this fundraising been going on only for the past two weeks?" I am certainly no insider, although I have talked with them and the message, which I have passed along before, has been made clear. The number is xxx dollars, and that xxx dollars needs to be in hard money. So why do we have some rush up, last minute campaign before this meeting. If $6 million has been pledged in 2 weeks, $20 million could have been pledged in 3 months.
The UAB Football Foundation has been the hero, and Wes Smith the goat of all this, but I think Wes is correct as reported in this story. Incidentally, I have not seen this email, but trust the reporting on it.

Maybe I misunderstand the backdrop, but I am afraid the Foundation is playing a cat and mouse game with the administration about this. I hope that is not the case. I believe there is $20 million dollars (and more) of support for this program. Why not a billboard with the same pledge form and a website address eight weeks ago?
In my opinion the answer, to the restoration of football is simple. Raise so much f*'in' money they have no choice but to restore it. Period. Anything else puts the program at risk of never coming back.
Right now, the only thing to do is pass those forms to family, friends, neighbors, and everyone else. And I'm doing that right now, As I write this email, I am reminded that it is easy to second guess the people doing the actual work, and I probably shouldn't do that with the FF here, but like everyone else, I want this to work. But I guess I'll leave it. Maybe it will encourage others to donate, or find donations.
Please send letters emails to business associates, friends, and everyone else you can think of with a link to the pledge form. If there is $6 million now, there can be $12 million next week. Which is a good start.
Thanks
