I don't see any way it makes sense to do that, and if they tried I still wouldn't give them the money until there was a football team again. Once it goes live it will go through the athletic department as normal.

But they already have the money for the season tickets thing, which is why it got shut down, I thought.

RE: Breaking: UAB boosters raise $6mil in 2 weeks to bring back football
The question that I have, and have commented on several times in the past several months is, "Why has this fundraising been going on only for the past two weeks?" I am certainly no insider, although I have talked with them and the message, which I have passed along before, has been made clear. The number is xxx dollars, and that xxx dollars needs to be in hard money. So why do we have some rush up, last minute campaign before this meeting. If $6 million has been pledged in 2 weeks, $20 million could have been pledged in 3 months.

The UAB Football Foundation has been the hero, and Wes Smith the goat of all this, but I think Wes is correct as reported in this story. Incidentally, I have not seen this email, but trust the reporting on it.

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/...s_its.html

Maybe I misunderstand the backdrop, but I am afraid the Foundation is playing a cat and mouse game with the administration about this. I hope that is not the case. I believe there is $20 million dollars (and more) of support for this program. Why not a billboard with the same pledge form and a website address eight weeks ago?

In my opinion the answer, to the restoration of football is simple. Raise so much f*'in' money they have no choice but to restore it. Period. Anything else puts the program at risk of never coming back.

Right now, the only thing to do is pass those forms to family, friends, neighbors, and everyone else. And I'm doing that right now, As I write this email, I am reminded that it is easy to second guess the people doing the actual work, and I probably shouldn't do that with the FF here, but like everyone else, I want this to work. But I guess I'll leave it. Maybe it will encourage others to donate, or find donations.

Please send letters emails to business associates, friends, and everyone else you can think of with a link to the pledge form. If there is $6 million now, there can be $12 million next week. Which is a good start.

Thanks

Everyone needs to pull in the same direction on this. let's focus on getting as many pledges as we can in the next couple of weeks. that's where our focus lies. We need to grow that number and the higher it is the worse Watts looks rejecting it. It is a step in getting rid of him.

I support 1,000 percent what you say. Everyone please, for the next several weeks, please put aside anything but a lazer focus on raising money for the restoration of football. UAB is about more than this, and no one is unmindful of that, but for right now, forget the BOT, Watts, Wes, Brian, Jack Williams, Jabo, The ghost of Coach Bryant, and everything else. Honor our great University by showing our commitment to her.

UAB needs her Sons and Daughters. Right Now. At this Hour.

Yes, because it was being collected by a seemingly anonymous PayPal account with it looking like the money would be going to UAB. There's real legal implications with that deal, which is why it was shut down.

I think we all wish that fundraising had been handled a bit differently in the past. The thing is that there is nothing to be done about that now and we are in the middle of a very important real time fund drive. Let's just focus on that and drive on.

I think you are confused. I pledged to buy x number of season tickets and I sent in a pledge form, but I sent in no money. No one else sent in money either. There was no PayPal account involved. I understand that the administration threatened the foundation leaders with legal action for requesting UAB season ticket pledges without authorization from the UAB so they had to shut the effort down. That was just another attempt by Watts and company to put a stick in the spokes of anything designed to bring back football.

Good suggestions above, but to your concerns - I think that you will find that the Foundation leaders and some members of the task force (not including Wes Smith who is not trusted) aren't showing their entire hands yet. I think that they have excellent hands and when all of the bets are on the table, you will like the hands they lay down.

I most definitely put down 25% for season tickets.

I paid $75 for a deposit on 3 season tickets with my VISA via PayPal. That's real money in hand... somewhere.
