Great Article on Curtis Pride- Soccer Prodigy Turned Basketball & Baseball Pl...
Watching Pride in an Angels uniform and learning of his all around ability, I can't help but conclude the following. Curtis Pride has to be considered one of the very best athletes to ever set foot on the campus. It's a no brainier. His disassociation from the school is a genuine loss.

I got to see Curtis play for the Binghamton (AA) Mets in their inaugural season. He was one of two players on the team with a college degree. I think my dad (Class of '65) still has a ball with his autograph.

Don't ask me. I wasn't there. Rumor has it the root cause, or maybe peripheral, was his relationship, or lack of, with the basketball coach. How's that for vagueness? It's real. There must be someone on the board who knows the skinny on this. I pretty sure about one guy who knows what's up; but, anonymity reigns.

I'm not sure there is a formal "disassociation". Curtis spoke on-the-record at the time about his dissatisfaction with Chuck Swenson, as did former players Matt O'Reilly, Greg Taylor, Tom Bock, and several others. They all commented that they thought Swenson was over his head as a coach, and they were right.

Sad that the fallout from the Swenson years still remains. For me, a lot of the basketball pains stem from Swenson's disastrous time here. It has taken a long time to reverse the negative impact he had on the program and the fans.
