I really hate the premise of everyone does it we just got caught mentality.

Time to pay the piper.

Patriot personnel say spy gate didn't help them or the balls didn't help them. If that's the case you should be punished for stupidity for continuing to perform illegal acts you knew weren't helping you.

It doesn't make it right, but it is something to consider. If the Cleveland Browns got caught doing this, how many people would have cared. Hell, Aaron Rodgers said he liked his balls overinflated and nobody cared about that. any controversy that goes with the patriots makes a good story.

The Browns would have had swift punishment, perhaps a draft pick taken away, no one would care, and it would actually benefit them as it would be one less pick they'd screw up.

Brady and Patriots are the darlings of the Nfl right now and nothing will come of it. If anything it will be a slap on the wrist.

What happened after the Pat's were busted for Spygate? I can't recall much of anything. What's going to happen now? Brady gets a few game supension and a couple of ball-boys get fired? Big Deal. For some franchises, cheating is clearly worth the risk.

The penalty for Spygate was:
Loss of a first round pick.
Bill Belichek was fined $500,000.
The Patriots were fined $250,000.

Thanks for this. By the way, the only thing that matters there is the loss of the draft pick; the money is written off as a cost of doing business (i.e. no one feels it). $500k to Brady would not even be noticed by a guy who's been making $40M/year (all in) for over a decade.

Very surprised, but the punishment is a bit more than a slap on the wrist....

Brady suspended 4 games
Patriots fined $1 million.
Patriots lose 2016 1st round pick and 2017 4th round pick.
Two Patriots equipment staffers suspended indefinitely.

The NFL couldn't successfully defend the Rice and Peterson punishments...can't see this holding up either.

Didn't Peterson lose a whole year and Rice was suspended indefinately. Not sure how/why your trying to equate domestic violence to cheating.

They both won grievances and were paid the bulk salaries.

Both the Rice and Peterson punishments were ultimately overturned. With less hard evidence in this case than those others, the result will likely be similar.

And you said it yourself..."Not sure how/why your trying to equate domestic violence to cheating." You aren't sure because I didn't.

Rice was reinstated in November...nobody has signed him.

RE: OT: Brady cheating debate
Local radio guy here pointed out that the penalty for underinflated footballs per the NFL rulebook is only $25,000. It doesn't say if that's per ball, or per incident so even the most liberal interpretation would make the fine about $275,000. A million dollars and loss of draft picks seems a bit excessive.
