I'm sure the Australians will come out in droves to see the 10th place Pac 12 team vs. the 7th place MWC team. I don't see a lot of people traveling to this bowl unless they wanted an Australia vacation any way.

Yeah, I don't think it's meant for fans to travel to but to as they article states to communicate the culture between the 2 countries. As well as to expand the 2 conference's boundaries....much like college basketball has done. Both the PAC and MW have Aussie players in basketball.

Edit: BSU has been getting some good players from Canada lately so to extend that to Australia I'm sure they could be a few Aussie's that are pretty good wanting to try American football at the college level.

So...they may get local ppl out to see this in Australia's warm December weather. But the travel costs, time difference, and passport nightmares could really cause some problems.

If the Canada Bowl failed, I don't see how this one can succeed.

Because of the advance work required, including getting all those passports as Hair mentioned, it would be far easier to do this for a game in the first week of the regular season than for a bowl game.

Yep, USF was in the Toronto bowl once, and I recall it was a challenge getting all those passports in time...

40 teams going bowling is plenty enough for every conference champ and division champ plus all Top 25 teams and then some.

With a 2PM local start time, this would fit nicely into that coveted Midnight-3AM time slot. Think how many viewers ESPN could steal from QVC.

The sad thing is I would watch. I'm part of the problem.

I enjoy all of the bowl games. I get to see teams I haven't watched all year. A lot of the bowl games are actually in pretty good locations and make a lot of sense. I can only think of four that aren't very good.

Birmingham (stadium is disgusting)
Potato Bowl (terrible payout -- ugly field, temporary turf would help)
St. Petersburg (problem is Tropicana, if the Rays ever get a new park then this would be fine)
Quick Lane (Detroit)

Canada failed because no one other than the MAC would sign an agreement to play there. Big East schools didn't attack the passport (and customs and import issues) proactively like the MAC did and had issues. No one else was interested enough to sign on. Financially it did OK.

One CFP proposal was put forward jointly by the ACC and Sun Belt was to place 1-4 in the playoff and 5-25 would be matched in bowl games as placed by the committee with the committee instructed to preserve historic alignments (ie. top available Big 10 and Pac-12 to Rose, top available SEC to Sugar, etc.)

Pairings would be put together to respect history, try to accomodate geography (ie. seeded higher better chance of playing close to home), and the best competitive match-ups.

Interestingly the strongest opposition came from SEC despite the past five year's data showing the SEC would make out like bandits under that format.
