Exclamation C-USA adds New Bowl
Didn't see this here but Bertt McMurphy says that C-USA will play the MW in a Bowl game in Tucson. What are we up to now? 6 or 7?

NCAA certifies new bowls in Tucson (MW-CUSA), Austin (AAC-SB), Orlando (AAC-SB), sources tell @ESPN; record 42 bowls in 2015

The Austin Bowl was supposed to be C-USA vs AAC but that would have been 8 for our league while also having the backup role in the Indy Bowl. So the SBC has the Austin Bowl, good for them. We now have 7 with 1 backup role. Only 12 teams in C-USA can gain bowl eligibility this year with Charlotte in the process of transitioning to FBS.

I think that gives the AAC 25 bowls for 12 teams...

Belt has now 5 bowls, 4 of which are within our footprint and make for excellent fan participation....the 5th, Orlando, isn't exactly chopped liver either.

Yeah, I watched Memphis play in one of those horrible bowls...we beat a solid BYU in gorgeous Miami, and ended up breaking into the top-25 because of it......lmao!!!

Yep, Sun Belt scooped in and got Austin after their Little Rock Bowl fell through. Still good news for both leagues.

We have four Texas teams and we can't get a second bowl in Texas? UTEP has some decent options.

Pretty much. Bankowsky never signed a deal with Austin, just gave a verbal agreement. When Little Rock fell apart, we called and were able to swoop in.

The other thing here to keep in mind is that the SBC has Texas State, which has a brand new 30K seat stadium just south of Austin. If they can't get an agreement with Texas for DKR Stadium, they could easily move to San Marcos now...and get to play in an actual football stadium.

Wonder why CUSA dropped out of deal. With 4 Texas teams, it should have been ideal. The Sun Belt only has one Texas team.

I'm hearing it will either be at Texas State's stadium (30k in San Marcos) or UT

I doubt we'd fill 8 slots anyway.

I'd rather have too many than too few like last year. But even if that's the case our schools would likely send more fans to Austin than Tucson.

UTEP would be perfect for Tucson. Only 300 miles of Interstate 10. It's about 580 mile to Austin from EP. We would have a very good crowd in either for a bowl game.

You're perfect for Tucson and New Mexico but you can't go to both.

I believe they will be about 10 days apart so why not?

It's good we have more bowl spots but geez the amount of bowls are getting ridiculous. 84 teams in bowls is crazy.

82 teams. They're counting the NC game which doesn't require 2 additional teams.

Word is he didn't want to make a financial agreement to a game that there was no guarantee the league would be able to fill yearly...
