Hilarious that "Abdominal Snowmen" makes the cut, but "Abominable Snowmen" doesn't. "Fliers" does but "Flyers" doesn't. "Dragons of Ice" and "Icy Flying Reptiles" do but not "Ice Dragons."

Instead of snowmen, how about blueskins? Or would that offend someone with some sort of genetic disorder or someone who eats too many blueberries?

The one person who probably be offended died in 2013.

Violet Beauregard from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory (1971 version) would surely object.... "You're turning violet, Violet"

It would be a relevant nickname that reflects the state in 2015.

That's a good idea.

What about the "Frackers"?

Sorry, didn't see the post at the top of the page.

How about the "North Stars"?

Minnesota's hockey team is no longer using it.

UND is now the go to place for geologists and petroleum engineers in the state. Theres a drilling core library on campus that drillers must make rock deposits on if they drill. Much of exploration includes a trip to that library. Harold Hamm endowed the geology school, and other oil company donations are funding a new petroleum engineering building.

But I would suspect academia and the PC crowd will be entirely against that name.

I said that as a person who has a degree in geology and is not a fan of fracking personally. But I'm also not easily offended so [Image: j3YzJxO.gif]

A Minnesota state legislator once referred to Minnesota as "East Dakota" in a speech he gave on the house floor

That's more appropriate for NDSU, as more than half their students are Minnesotans.

We have minority Dakotan too, but enrollment in aviation and aerospace programs draws from all over.

No Dakota has tuition reciprocity with Minnesota, and UND and NDSU are better, more diversified, and cheaper options than public Minnesota schools below UMinn.

OT: for those that may know .... is there any rivalry between the North Dakota schools and the South Dakota schools? From an outsider's perspective, it seems they should be rivals.

In the six New England states, a student from any of the states can get in-state tuition at any of the other five state schools in certain situations. I think it mainly applies if your home state school doesn't offer an academic program that another state school does.

We were all in the same conference for a century. Omaha was sometimes part of it, as well as N Iowa, and Mankato St (now Minn St-Mankato) and St Cloud St and certain private schools.

NDSU and SDSU are supposedly big rivals now.
