The Preakness
In less than 2 weeks the largest annual revenue event in the City of Baltimore happens. Don't think for a minute they mayor, the governor, and the state prosecutor aren't aware of this and certainly realized that without serious criminal charges this race may very well have been run in front of empty grandstands. I would say the pressure to have The Preakness go off in a business as usual environment is huge. The problem they have after that is the nothing the cops did rises to the level of charges brought against them SO, if they get a fair trial, they'll be found not guilty, and the rest of the Orioles season and the start of the Ravens season will be at risk.

Weak argument

Fear of irreparable harm to a 140 year tradition, and a major tourist attraction is a weak argument?

Detroit has at least eight Lions games per, and 81 Tigers games. St. Louis still has three major professional teams. Life will go on, and so will the Preakness.

The Orioles game went on even with riots, but in front of an empty stadium. If the riots had continued no doubt The Preakness would have run in front of empty grandstands, if the riots had escalated due to no charges being filed The Preakness may not have ran out of safety concerns for trainers, jockey's and all rest involved. Either scenario would have been a humiliating defeat for Baltimore.

Yes. A couple of riots isn't going to stop a 140 year tradition.

I think the OP is spot on. However, I think they'll try to disrupt the race anyway.

I also agree with the OP.....however, it remains to be seen how the 'masses' will play with this one...

I would bet attendance will be down as a minimum...it is easily my 'favorite' for this 'race'
