Of course this is a two-edge sword: Your #1 team also has a much better chance of losing to your #2 team, and your #2 team wouldn't necessarily beat out the best teams of the other G5 conferences.
This commissioner does seem realistic, though, in that he realizes that his teams are playing strictly for the Access Bowl, not the playoffs.
It would be a stupid move and typical of the poor strategic planning by Hair who is one of the worst commissioners in college sports. It would destroy the integrity of playing teams in your division and what you are fighting within your division to obtain. The better option is the three groups of eight concept with the AAC. Between us we would then own the access bowl slot.
I like that concept as well---though 12+6+3 is a little better in my view. Take the AAC, add the top 6 MW schools and form a 3rd division. Then add 3 non-football schools to add a lttile extra punch to the basketball strength. East gets VCU, Central gets Wichita, and west gets BYU Olympic sports. Eight game football schedule (5 division games + 3 crossovers), home-and-home divisional basketball schedule with 4 crossovers in the each division (results in just 4 long travel games a year), and non-revenue sports largely play divisional schedules with a just a little crossover to minimize travel expenses. You get just as good a football conference, probably a better basketball conference, and you split the money less ways while still getting decent nationwide coverage.

Why would you want the #1 G5 conference to combine with anyone? Least of all the #3 AAC conference.

You know it's going to happen. Team A beats Team B on the last weekend of the regular season to force a tie, then play one another again the next week for the title.

I figure the best teams will do whatever is necessary to get away from San Jose St.
Seriously, we knocked off the Big-12 champ the season before in the Fiesta. We had a bad year in 2014. Remember how the Big-10 had a bad year and came roaring back. Don't get too comfortable. The MW is just keeping our seat warm.

Coog - I could live with your 6-6-6 plan but I think it has a strategic flaw I outlined in the other thread. BTW in either case you could add BYU, WSU and VCU if Navy, Air Force and Hawaii were all football only.

Because between both of us we would virtually lock up the access bowl and if you are there enough people think you belong. Not to mention the 16 team tournament would help teams get at large spots and add the amount of tourney credits to distribute.

I could see Navy pull out if they do this. One problem is that the ACC have some very weak football members who are on the low end like SMU, Temple and Tulane. They can't even compete against P5 schools like all the MWC schools can. I think the MWC have the upper hand than most of the AAC schools about recruiting. They only have the PAC 12 and Big Sky to recruit against. Texas have so many conferences recruiting there, and many FBS and FCS conferences are based mostly east of the Mississippi.
