KSU Basketball Recruiting Class of 2016
Interesting rare, early commit from Mitch Peterson over at Walsh for 2016 class. Never seen him play, but I love to see us recruiting locally. This establishes identity and can help team chemistry. Clearly this kid is excited and preparing himself for Kent and that can bring positivity and excitement down the line. Seems to have a good head on his shouldera. We really do have an exciting few years ahead of us!

Do we have any other recruits on the horizon in the 2016 class? Will someone from the current class wait a year to enroll?

Kid is a baller. A sniper. Excellent job by Coach Steinburg on getting this done!

RE: KSU Basketball Recruiting Class of 2016
I've seen him play a couple times:
- he's very versatile as he can bury three but also has good dribble drive game and has nice mid-range game. trying to draw a comparison but think kyrem massey 15 foot jumper and McAdams from akron but much better dribble drive game than him.
- very unselfish lets game come to him and doesn't force things.
- I'm not sure how hard we recruited his rival Anthony Christian over at akron hoban but I hope this puts an end to that recruitment as I have not been impressed with him at all.
- I went to 2-3 games this past year and every time Toledo was there so not sure if they officially offered but I know they were highly interested.

Here's an AAU video of him. https://vimeo.com/112444656
Looks too have decently long arms. Seems kind of ground bound. With the guards we have coming in this year adding a pure shooter is a good idea. Seems like a very solid addition.

6'5' as a High School junior, he's likely to add a few inches. If he's 'ground bound', he might end up being a MAC power forward

Power Forward? No. He is a 2 guard.

I completely concur. Unselfish player unlike the Hoban kid who we were looking at also. We finally get an Akron kid to choose us over that open enrollment school. This will ease the pain of losing Williams to akron

Another shooting guard. He's played against Devon Andrews a bit. In Lorain's 77-71 win over Warrensville Heights in January, they both had 26 points.
I was at that game and paid attention to him since I'd heard we'd offered him. He looked to be a pretty solid player. Him and the younger Andrews were matched up and went back and forth all night. At one point they picked up offsetting technicals.

So how likely is it that we can reel in Daviere Andrews? I don't see him on any of the recruiting lists

Well, I don't have any inside information but I'd have to believe the addition of Hall makes it rather unlikely. I believe Hall fills out our 2016 recruiting class. We'll have 3 scholarships freed up (Spicer, Ortiz, and Pollard) assuming the NCAA is giving Thomas last year back. Those three scholarships will be going to Hall, Peterson, and whatever 2015 recruit is paying his way this season.
Additionally, there are 3 guards in the 2015 freshman class and now 2 more in the 2016. Not to mention Thomas and Edwin will still be around in 2016. So I don't think guard would be the priority if a scholarship came open.
With all that said, I have no idea why Daviere Andrews isn't getting more traction on the recruiting sites. From seeing him play a couple times he's a very talented player. Watching him and Hall go against each other, it was clear Hall has more of a D1 body right now. Andrews is pretty slender. But he more than held his own against Hall. I actually thought he kind of got the better of Hall. Maybe the lack of interest comes from grades? Maybe he's a guy that will end up in prep school or JUCO and we can bring him in as part of the 2017 or 2018 class. Or if he's not getting D1 offers maybe he'll want to walk on. I would think our coaches would know everything there is to know about him though.

Uh oh - I think Devon Andrews might be having a Demetrius Treadwell problem... See http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf...tes_a.html
"A woman told police Monday that Guice and Andrews came to her graduation party at her parents' house the previous day along with seven other males. The group was asked to leave, but refused, the woman told police.
Guice then knocked the woman over and the two scuffled on the ground. Andrews struck the woman over the head, according to the police report."

yep. and the only thing i would add, axeme, is for other student athletes with such potential to start realizing what is at stake. these are my least favorite stories to read regardless of school affiliation.

Upon reading the article, it begs the question: Didn't the coaching staff consider grades and behavior in addition to basketball talent?
Maybe Jordan Italiano can tutor Andrews.

For those that have not been to the city of Lorain, Ohio in recent years, this is one tough city. Shootings just about every night, 87% poverty.... not a very good environment. Lock ur doors and keep the windows rolled up if u travel thru there at night. Just sayin'......

Okay, thanks for the travel tip, but what does this have to do with Andrews [allegedly] whompin' on a woman?
