Unlike the rest of the board, I'm a Special Education major, so using proper grammar is sadly something that has grown on me... there is no such thing as a Huskie -__- lol... Huskies = correct plural, Husky = correct singular... us walking around with sign's saying "Welcome to Huskie Country" makes us sound like a bunch of uneducated corn shuckers honestly haha

From the old NIU athletics site, take it for what it's worth:

"Further note to Noah Webster and copy readers: Evans made reference in that 1940 story to a Huskie dog, not H-U-S-K-Y. So the singular collective form is indeed H-U-S-K-I-E, as in Huskie victory, Huskie touchdown, Huskie basket, Huskie spike, and Huskie All-America."

Unlike many on the board, you must never have bought a game program, checked into the history of the school or you would have known that a four-man committee of Varsity Club members (back when such an organization was important and respected) that included NIU athletic patriach George G "Chick" Evans -- long-time Athletic Director -- came up with the nickname and established back then the unique distinction of H-u-s-k-i-e, as in Huskie victory, Huskie touchdown, Huskie spike, etc., as niusfactuary noted. It was not a matter of proper grammar then or today, presently it would be called "branding." Considering it has been specified that way for over eight decades, it is tradition. From signs to T-shirts, a Huskie Illustrated game program, to Huskie Athletic Fund brochures, stories in any newspaper or on the athletic website --- for you not to be aware of that distinction sounds like you're an uneducated band wagon jumper. LOL if you can't admit your in the minority on this topic.

I forget how 50% of the people on this board have nothing better to do -__- this is so off topic from what this post was for. Not Husky v. Huskie... I'm just saying, if I'm teaching a kid how to spell a word, my pride will say HUSKIE, but the Principal/District signing my check is going to say HUSKY -__- lol, just sayin. I even was hoping that if I googled Huskie Dog, it would actually show up spelled that way, nope, "Did you mean: Husky Dog" lol

Because when it comes to Huskie athletics, it's not correct.
Some on here want to change the name of the school to not be confused with the University of Northern Iowa and here's something established eight decades ago that distinguishes us from the U of Washington, UConn, and Northeastern, --- a fact every true Huskie fan should know.

How does that make me arrogant??????? I'm the exact opposite of an arrogant person if I say so myself. I'm arrogant because I wrote the word properly and then even went on to explain myself -__- ... if you have a legit typed out discussion with just about anyone who's an educator, you'll notice their grammar usage is usually 97% correct. I 100% support this school and our teams, but don't get your panties in a bunch when someone writes Husky, at least I'm not one of those ******** who says were the UNI Panthers. Funny part is I read that and I'm almost 100% sure UConn and UDub fans don't get all antsy when someone spells the team name with the proper singular spelling. If a Closed Caption text came on the screen for a reporter interviewing a HUSKIE player, the on screen text would say "I'm standing here with HUSKY wide receiver Da'Ron Brown....."

Yes, I admit I made a typographical error. Perhaps someday we'll all type as perfectly as PrideinthePack.
