NFL draft
Is it just the first round tonight and rounds 2 and 3 tomorrow night? I can't recall the format. But in any case, we do have perhaps 3 Owls who could be late 2nd day or 3rd day picks in Covington, Callahan and Taylor.

Kiper's commentary made it sound like his expectation is Gaines and Peters (the draftee out of U-Dub) would be looked at to be the longer term answers at CB.

Hey guys you know Phillip will be up for the competition. We are very thin at CB. We let go of Owens and Shaq (can't remember last name :) so we only have 4 CBs. Sean Smith and Fleming only have one year left on their contract and that only leaves Phillip and Marcus Cooper who really struggled last year. I know Marcus Peters was picked in the first round and is a hell of a player but he is a bit slow...so it should be interesting. This is the NFL....you need to keep up. I'm sure Phillip will do his thing!

I guess a small chance Covington goes today? Other two will be tomorow if they get drafted.

Amazing what great coaching can do for players. The number of Louisville players going in the first few rounds. Charlie Strong and his staff.

Sounds like Peters may be a bit immature still so Philip will get to lead him. :) Looking forward to the 2 of them holding down the fort in KC for 10 years!

Am I seeing it right that more than half way through the sixth round, not a single Owl has been taken?

Yes. Covington up to number 4 on Kiper's best available.

Disappointing to say the least. Rice needs to get on the football map. We need some victories that will get us on the map.

RE: NFL draft
What does Covington's draft selection have to do with signature wins? How many signature wins did Hobart have? They had a guy drafted yesterday.

Covington will get picked shortly (maybe by Houston). It's a fair topic to talk whether he made a mistake in declaring early, but can we please just talk about the draft in this thread?

RE: NFL draft
BTW I notice that the Broncos and 49ers have picked tight ends. I'm not sure if that affects James Casey if he's now a FB again, but that can't be good news for Vance McDonald's long-term future.

RE: NFL draft
Seattle picks two DL in the 5th round but no Covington. So much for the hometown local boy angle (well Vancouver is 3 hours away but Seattle is the closest NFL city).
