Texans decide to go with the other hometown angle, and grab him in the sixth.

RE: NFL draft
Now if some team wants a steal at WR, Jordan Taylor is available. He could be a FA signing, but I hope somebody takes a chance on him today. I give him more of a shot than Callahan because of his size. The Steelers worked out and discussed Callahan but already drafted multiple CB's.

Actually is Houston a good fit for Covington? They have a 3-4 system. Can Covington play a NT position in the NFL - my guess is not right away but maybe in a few years?

McShay and others on the ESPN very complimentary of Covington. Said he fell (as we all know) because of his injury history, but definitely feel like he can play in the league (as we all know).

He'll have Wilfork to learn from, so that should be good.

I wonder if the Cowboys might consider Jordan Taylor. He would be another hometown pick and I think they need some depth (and size) at WR?

He can be a 3-4 DE on 1st and 2nd downs.

Taylor to the Eagles is my prediction. Not sure why they dropped so much. Covington injury we know but that was a huge drop. He will play in the NFL just a matter of time

Their Asst. Director of Player Personnel Will McClay is a Rice guy. He supposedly has been pretty instrumental in their recent drafts.

RE: NFL draft
Not the best day for the Rice Owls in the draft, but we keep the streak of consecutive drafts alive. This is the sixth consecutive draft where we have had someone taken in the draft, and seventh out of the last rights (only exception was 2010, which I don't think anyone is surprised about).

RE: NFL draft
I think it's a been good run of Rice draft picks in the NFL. Let's not lose sight of the fact that very few if any of these guys were top 300 types coming out of high school.

I do wonder if our run ends this year. Right now, I'm not sure if I think any current players will be drafted in next couple of NFL drafts.

La Tech had no one drafted and they did pretty well against us. Ditto ODU

the linkage between drafted players and quality of team is a loose one. UAB was the only CUSA team with two players picked.

In the ACC, Georgia Tech was clearly better than Louisville with 3 players picked compared to 10

Our one drafted player didn't actually play against either of those teams, really would have like to run at least the ODU game back with him.

RE: NFL draft
Next year our best chances for a drafted player are probably Parks (If he has a good season), Reue, and perhaps Farrimond. Also, I think Alex Lyons is another one of our players with NFL potential. He could come out after this season, but he would probably be wise to stay for a 5th year.

We lost ODU because we weren't prepared for their short punt. They pinned us in a hole by kicking from it, they threw for a TD just before the half from it, and they ran for a key first down late from it. If we handle that, we win easily. I'm not sure he would have made enough difference to offset that.
