To me Cincinnatti makes the most sense. Pretty good football and basketball, travel partnerish with WVU, big city with decent population, in a state where B12 doesn't have a presence, and Ohio is one of the top states in the country for HS FB recruiting. Not sure why they wouldn't be a very reasonable choice for the B12.

When are college football games played on Sundays (except for Bowl Games and maybe one or two games on the first weekend of the season)? As a football-only invite, BYU wouldn't be required to play on Sundays anyway.

Correct.

If I were the Big-12 Commish, I would push for FB only invites to BYU and UCF.

I live in the Cinci area and they're really pushing for an invite. Plans are underway for facility upgrades. Nippert is currently undergoing a major renovation and discussions are underway to upgrade Fifth third arena. UC also uses Paul Brown Stadium. Cinci makes the most sense.

If the Big 12 has a problem with BYU's refusal to do anything athletically on Sundays the problem would be in regards to the Olympic sports since it's quite common for those competitions to occur on Sundays. That could definitely include conference playoffs in basketball, for an example.

I really don't see the Big 12 bringing in a football only. We know first hand how much of a pain 11 schools can be for the other sports. I still believe BYU would reconsider if it meant joining a P5 league. Cincy would make plenty of sense and Houston would be a good back up if BYU falls through.

No matter the outcome there will still only be 1 or maybe 2 spots in FBS when this all shakes out. The schools looking to join FBS better be ready to step up if they want in.

If they did bring in Cincinnati plus BYU as a football only then they could balance the league with a single non-football school like Wichita St. Not saying they would do that just that it is possible.

CP, Thanks for the links . ..

Seems pretty clear, if the NCAA doesn't grant a wavier, or repeal the current rule requiring 12 for a CG, that the Big 12 will have to expand . . . . Just don't see how they can afford not to . . .

Just reported, big12 will NOT pursue a cccg. After the completion of the spring meeting, their commish has done a 180 and said they will shelve the idea and stay as is.

the b12 is in no hurry to add another school. people dont seem to be able to understand that there are 5 conferences and 4 playoff spots. one conference will be left out every year. the first year it was the b12 so now we have endless hand wringing and head scratching until next year when one conference will not be sending a team. who will it be..the b12 is not in such panic mode after one year of the new playoff system to want add a school unless they would be a good add any other time.

Then they must feel pretty sure that their waiver will be approved. Otherwise, in the present format, the Big 12 just ensured that without a CG, more often than not, they'll be the odd man out . . .

RE: big12 comish announces move to hold championship gsme!
the way the report was worded it seemed like even if deregulation did or didn't happen they would not push for a CCG. The press release stated that the Big12 commish has apparently been convinced by the presidents to not force the issue of a CCG. This is very similar to what is happening in the SBC. King Karl has really been pushing for a CCG and the need to expand in order to get one. The SBC presidents don't see it that way and are fine with waiting it out and see if any opportunities present themselves in the future. Both conferences may want a CCG (or at least some in the conference want one), but they don't feel the need to make hasty adds in order to get it.

Unfortunately the SBC did that with the football only adds already, no need to make it worse.

Yeah, but the stakes are higher for the BIG 12 as it pertains to a CG than it is for the Belt . . . Not having a CG could well cost them far more in the long run . . .

Texas and Oklahoma are the Big XII. If either or both leave the Big XII would then stand worse than the Big East ever was. Either will get whatever they want, especially Texas. The dumb thing about that is that both would be better off if the other schools could rise to truly compete at the national level, yet greed and turf will prevent this.

Exactly in regards to the LHN as comparred to a potential BIG12 Channel.
They are most likly on most Basic packages in Texas, we could carry them here in GA but choose not to as demand is nearly nonexistent.
I'm sure The horns benefit from it, but is it enough of a benefit to be standing in the way of what they would stand to gain if they rolled the network over to the BIG12 Channel?

Then it would carry big weight in all BIG12 states and be more available to other states as demand for it would rise. If they pick big payout states with teams that have enough of a following to push themselves onto basic in those states, then the conference gains recruiting power and presence in those new states as well as secures "BIG" MONTHLY revenues. And oh yea, more "market" for their other TV deals.

uta and txst play them each year in a lot of stuff so the only value the lhn has for me is to occasionally see those two schools play. I didnt choose to go to ut-austin so I dont normally follow them in anything unless they are playing someone from the sbc. It comes included in our u-verse package and I would not pay extra for it otherwise.
