Picked up a transfer from NIU today. Deion Hallmon

Dogpound says his work ethic might have been the issue at NIU. The young man tweeted that Coach Carey wanted him to transfer.

Not sure what we are getting with this young man....but it sure makes good fodder on message boards

He was highly recruited, with numerous offers from P5 schools. He ended up taking a redshirt when he wound up 4th on the depth chart among our 4 freshmen DBs. Not sure what his problem is, he seemed to be quite whiny on social media and had a few public arguments with some people. Who knows, PJ will have to work some magic on him to get his head straight. He's also from Florida and talked a lot about missing home, interesting that he's heading even further north. Anyway, that's all I got. Don't know much else about him because he never played.

RE: Hallmon
Had some big time offers coming out of high school. I believe he initially committed to Rutgers, then went Northern Illinois. Have to think this is a young man that hasn't figured out things yet, and it's gotten in the way of his talent. This is a great move by PJ. If he gets his head on right, and works hard, they get a talent that had FSU, Wisconsin, and UCLA offers. If he doesn't, no harm, we are deep in the defensive backfield anyway.

And let me just say that he was 4th among our freshmen DB's. He was 6th on the depth chart.

RE: Hallmon
yeah but if he did have work ethic or attitude problems it would make sense for Carey to put him low on the depth chart. You don't do the work, you don't play. Hopefully a change of scenery and another year of growing up will give him the ability to get it together. If not, it was worth a shot.

He has talent. It doesn't just leave someone. If it doesn't pan out then worst case scenario is he get the water to players faster with his 4.3 speed

Sounds like he's having a joke on everyone.

The only transfer that PJ and his coaches are looking for is a seasoned NG. We're pretty deep at DB.

RE: Hallmon
It looks like he is transferring as a student (his words), as it sounds like he wants to get his priorities in order. If this is the case, being willing to be a walk on and earn his way is an admirable thing.

Yes. With PJ Fleck, and the strength of a thousand field mice, all players with great potential flock to Kzoo to learn how to row. :)

Let me elaborate: I am transferring to Western Michigan as a student. Academics are my first priority...football comes later. @WMUFBNewEra

Okay, technicality. He's going to situate at WMU, learn the ways of the oar -- aiming TO join the team after a year. Makes sense. Just the "Scenic" route of transferring to the team.

Hopefully PJ can pick off a few Huskies. Heck, even their newer dog mascot!
