RE: Rivalry with Charlotte Begins
I went on SB Nations preview of Charlotte and looked at who they played last year. Their best win was at NC Central, other wins against teams like Johnson C Smith, Wesley College, Morehead State and Campbell07-coffee3. To me there is absolutely no way they are ready for this move. I wish them the best, but they are in for a very long season. We will win big!!04-rock04-rock

well, don't knock the D3 school they played and beat. they would beat half the CUSA teams. at least that's what one of their posters said.

Which one of those tomato cans was the division 3 team? Wesley College or Johnson C Smith? Honestly I've never heard of those schools. Wesley College? Didn't Hillary Clinton go there? They lost to Gardner Webb, Gardner "Freakin" Webb. Now I realize we played GW in our second year and won 14-7. But does anybody think we would have been ready for FBS!! Not me.

RE: Rivalry with Charlotte Begins
Many of our losses were because our defense couldn't stop anyone. We had several injuries on defense and were playing walkons. They were close losses and could very well have been wins if we had our normal starters.

That said, unless our defense makes MAJOR strides this season, we're not ready for FBS. We have a great RB and potentially some of the best receivers in CUSA, but our defense is awful and our QB play is a question mark for now.

It'll be a rough season for sure.

You'll get there. In the meantime, we're going to enjoy thrashing you while we can.

not me either, but we didn't even have FBS aspirations then. UNCC has had them since they started FB correct?

I don't know which one is the D3 school, but one of their posters was going on and on about how good of a team it was and just because it was D3 we shouldn't discount it and some CUSA teams would have a hard time with it, etc.

Trust me, I know all about defensive woes. I just wish you guys had about 2 more years in FCS, just to get seasoned. Like I said I really do wish you guys the best. Here's hoping we both have great seasons. 02-13-banana

we started with a plan to be FCS for a while. Our ambitions were certainly FBS, but we didn't expect realignment to come as soon as it did.

Our projected starting QB had no other offers. Our first recruiting class wasn't even good by FCS standards and now many of those guys are still starters.

Our coaching staff is extremely likable, but I haven't been a big fan of their recruiting so far. I don't think we have anything near FBS talent. We had a 4 star QB that was a contender for the starting position at Tennessee basically begging us to let him on the team this year and we turned him away. He wouldn't have helped us this year anyway, but I truly don't understand that because a good QB can make even a mediocre team look good. We seem to put a lot of faith in unproven guys.

This is strictly from my own experience, but whatever you think your realistic chances are this season, it undoubtedly will be worse. We had the luxury of five (pretty darn successful) seasons behind us before playing a full-up C-USA schedule. I was perhaps one of the more optimistic fans, but I truly thought we could have an eight-win season last year. As it turned out, we came close going six-six. Honestly, we could have had 7 or 8 wins with a couple of breaks in a couple of games. But also honestly, we won four conference games on the last play of the game -- one in overtime -- so it also easily could have been a two-ten season.

My point is, we were likely as prepared for the transition as any team could be including an All-American FCS quarteback, and it was clearly harder than many of us were ready to acknowledge before the season started.

I wish you the best, but my intincts tell me you are in for a long, long season, especially with your own admission of a suspect defense and a question mark at quarterback. Best wishes to you guys this year.

04-cheers

ah, okay. for some reason I thought it was always going to be FBS from the get-go but with obvious FCS stages...you'll get there though. we have yet to field a good defense. hopefully that changes, but we've had to put our offense in a position to score almost every time (it worked though b/c we had a good QB). I think that's part of the reason our coach would do so many onside kicks. if they're going to score anyway (b/c our defense was terrible) might as well get it over with and get the ball back quicker if we don't recover the onside kick.

I have full confidence Charlotte will become a major player in this conference. To much going for them. This could easily become a huge rivalry. Hope so. Being surrounded by ACC schools, they are in a position to play and eventually beat some nice P5 schools. Really looking forward to this rivalry.

Yeah, I think eventually they will be good also. There is some outstanding high school football in that area. But then again, I might be the only person left in the country that thinks Georgia State has upside. They are still a very young program.

oh god, you're saying I should expect 0 wins instead of 1? 03-lmfao 04-cheers

My expectations are pretty low.

If we steal a CUSA game this year, I think it'll be UTSA. They were really bad last year and they'll be welcoming a lot of new players.

I put our ceiling at 3 wins, but I'm expecting 1. 03-weeping

We need to expand our stadium so coaches aren't using the fact that it is the smallest in FBS against us in recruiting. It's a very nice stadium, just small. I think we'll hear something on this front though in a year or two. I expect to see us expand to 25,000-30,000. I hope we don't go beyond that honestly because we have BoA stadium if we need it for big games and I don't see us consistently needing a 40,000 seat stadium on campus.

I will feel better about Georgia State when they're not playing in an arena that is 3x bigger (at least) than they need.

Yeah I know, but as I recall they had about 30K at their first game, so the potential is there. Speaking of potential, what is your guys opinion on Mark Price? I think he was a front office guy, right? No head coaching experience. Are you guys bothered by that? We certainly need improvement by Charlotte if we ever hope to become more than a 1 bid league.

I'm not really bothered by his lack of HC exoerience. He was an assistant in the nba, not a front office guy.

He's sefinitrly a student of the game and apparently at least one of our players said something to the tune of "its nice to finally have someone in here that knows what they're doing" after running through a few weeks of mark price practices. He put a good staff around himself

Doubt we will be good this year because of so much turnover, but I think he will be a great coach.

His name carries pedigree too. We stole a recruit that was set to commit to Tulsa simply because of mark price's reputation and career. He had narrowed his list to Tulsa and some other school (forget who) and then we swooped in out of nowhere and stole him like a week after he announced his final two.
