Rice was 12th out of 13 teams in Conf USA.

Any body know what happen in Men's Golf. They won the Conf championship last year and had an experienced group this year?

I was wondering the same thing.

Last year the Owls beat UAB by 1 stroke (+21 to +22) in Edmond, Oklahoma. This year, North Texas beat UAB by 7 strokes (-3 to +4) in Texarkana.

Four of Rice's 2014 contestants also competed in this year's contest. Here are their results (2014 / 2015):

Economou: 3rd / T44
Reilly: T4 / 61th
Lee: T32 / T47
Levy: T32 / T32

BTW, the Owls finished T12 this year, not 12th out of 13. Rice & FAU tied in last place.

Last year's victory was more of a fluke than anything. If you had been following their results this season, the 12th place finish would not have surprised you.

Is this one sport that needs major change or par for the coarse? If so maybe drop men's golf and try men's soccer.

I think we have a good coach in place. I just think we had one of our better players injured for much of the year, and a pretty young team besides that. We also need to recruit more foreign players, ala track and tennis. It does boggle the mind how we can't be better in that sport. Outside of some success in the mid-1990's, that team has historically underperformed.

Would love to trade men's golf for men's soccer or lacrosse.

We don't need to get rid of the sport. Several of the scholarships are endowed and it's probably the least expensive sport at Rice in terms of overall costs to the school. We just need to do better in the sport.

I've heard that before as well re: the endowed scholarships. I wonder how much it costs overall when the scholarships are factored in. Being an off-campus sport makes it add very little to the overall undergraduate experience (IMO).

BTW, I learned today that the University (and not a big donor) is financing the soon-to-be-revealed new track and soccer facility.
