BYU has a major media market as well and they have been told NO numerous times. I have a feeling SMU will find the same situation despite the glaring difference in support.

Larry Scott has options, no doubt about it. I wonder why he and the PAC 12 presidents are standing still?

The Pac 10 should have merged with what was left of the SWC in the 1990s. Colorado and Utah would have then been in the middle of the Pac 14 footprint, so Colorado likely leaves the Big 8 and Utah likely leaves the WAC, and both would join the Pac 16 in 1996.

Even if limited to two divisions, giving both divisions access to California and Texas would have allowed the Pac 16 maximum exposure for both recruiting and television. The permanent crossover games could have been setup to preserve rivalries for the California schools and Texas schools, and then the Northwest and Mountain schools could have been shuffled accordingly. Of course the Pac 16 could have pushed for championship game deregulation much sooner, which would have allowed the use of geographically-friendly quads. Both Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston would have been split Pac 16/Big 12 markets.

If Texas isn't coming, Baylor or North Texas is about is as close as the Pac 12 could get to doubling down in DFW. Of course now that Austin itself has grown to 912,000 people, it makes landing the Longhorns that much more lucrative.

True, but they might want to take a look at Texas Tech anyway.

They should have never turned down OU and OK state to jump to 14. Team 15 is Texas Tech and team 16 is either Texas, Kansas, New mexico or Houston…assuming the pac 12 rules out private religious school's. I don't really see them making a move without taking any big 12 school's so it might be awhile.
