Wow. I wonder if she was asked to leave or saw the writing on the wall.
I wish Kathi the best of luck. She is a great person and a class act. I enjoyed watching the type of women's BB she coached, and it seemed like the women loved her and loved playing for her.

Feel bad for Kathi. She had no luck at all this past year. Only 8 players dressed for half the season due to injuries. Forced her to throw 2 true freshman into the deep end. Both of which looked really good at times. Wish her nothing but the best.

It's just my impression, but STF's statement appears somewhat terse and a bit detached - a canned statement from the files.

she has been out of the building for over a week. They kept it pretty quiet. There may be something else that triggered this.

I know nothing of College Basketball but... Bonnie Henrickson from Kansas was fired a few days ago. She just took a job in Cali but she is mostly a midwest coach so maybe we can have her do a PJ and come here?

Bennett just like Judson and Carol Owens appeared to be excellant choices and none panned out. Turning basketball around will be SF's legacy and it appears he is on it.

RE: Kathi Bennett Resigns as Women's BB Coach
The loss of Amanda Corral to graduation will have a big effect on the team this year. She will be very, very tough to replace. I saw some good flashes from a couple of the freshmen this past year, such as Kelly Smith, who will be a good one. But, I foresee the loss of Amanda will be too much. Add to this a new coach who could have different methods, philosophies, and coaching style, and this coming season could be even worse than anticipated. Then again, maybe a new coach will provide that needed shot in the arm. Time will tell.

It is bad when you are down 25-14 at the half.
You knew the game was over. I am for defense but just like the men, you need to score.
When girls left, that made me wonder especially the freshmen from Cary Grove that was very good.
When you have Amanda for 4 years and you could not build round her is a huge mistake.
Something was just not right.

I'm thinking that she simply could not get good players to commit to NIU. It's not an easy job. We need someone who can recruit the Chicago area and greater Midwest well - someone with a Pied Piper ability to attract decent players to NIU.
Hey, do you think PJ wants to coach women's BB? Bring him here and we'll be battling teams like Notre Dame and Connecticut for the title in a year or two.

RE: Kathi Bennett Resigns as Women's BB Coach
She comes from a great basketball coaching family so I am sure she will land on her feet. I am somewhat surprised she was not able to succeed here for whatever reason, but I wish her best of luck. This whole family is a class act. I still cringe at the thought of playing against her brother and dad while they were at UWGB. One of our best years in basketball ever and we went 0-3 against that team that year. . Didn't help the conference tourney was in Green Bay, but that tourney championship game was an all time classic for NIU basketball.

Frazier has said many times that he will be judged by the basketball programs.

Frickin' Tony scored 40 points each game, SOB. Lot of respect for them but that family seems to always affect NIU in a bad way.

If Tony would have come here to coach, he'd probably not have succeeded as well.

we seem to have hit a successful formula in football. A successful basketball program would be a great boost to athletics in terms of revenue and winter time exposure. Everybody wants to get bball going and I hope MM can really break through this season. As I have said before, Patton was the only questionable hire the rest all seemed to be winning picks. This will be SF's first significant hire, lets hope he strikes gold.

Do you go after a top assistant in a successful program such as Maryland, Purdue or Notre Dame with no head coaching experience or do you get a coach with head coaching experience from a lower profile program??

We tried the top assistant from Notre Dame before, Carol Owens. Didn't work out. Go after successful coach at a lower level.
