Hiring a good basketball coach is so tough. Even in high school. You're in control of every aspect of the program and any weakness is magnified even more so than football.

I understand her leaving, but I really liked Kathi and I will miss her. Great lady.

I am sure Frazier came to NIU with a ftball, men's and women's bball coaches on his short list. There is no way Bennett left on her own. She had become very happy in Dekalb. This tells me that Monty is do or die this coming year.

I'll be pretty surprised if Frazier doesn't hire a high level assistant.

who knows. What better selection for a women's coach then Carol Owens and what does she do, go back to ND for probably the same or bettter salary as she got at NIU with less responsibility. You just don't know how someone is going to do these days.

I think a problem arose with bennett that caused this departure. I think MM has to compete for the division title, win more games then he loses and win at least one game in the MAC tourney and show big time player development. We need just good damn players.

If the 6 freshmen play well next year, I could give a damn about the record, Monty needs to stay.

its his 5th year he needs wins. We can't keep starting over every 4 years. I hope he wins, I like him as a coach. But the record will matter.

Wasn't Bennett suspended a couple of years ago for some infraction?

A game or 2 and I don't think the specifics ever came out.

We're well past the end of the season so this wasn't a W/L move. No one commenting takes personal reasons on Bennett's end off the board.

That leaves something at least somewhat unpleasant happened. And Bennett and NIU hope the whole subject is dropped quickly.

Yeah, it didn't work with Kathi. She lost a stud player, had an odd suspension, and couldn't get wins. That's not a recipe for keeping your job.
