How in the hell can a PhD in University Administration from the Unavehsateh be of any value?

The other guy has Auburn ties, so the fix is in.

I worked recruiting for the School of Engineering as an undergrad, and I talked to Trailblazers and other UAB recruiters all the time. I've had people tell me that UAT lies to the face of applicants about UAB. This guy is an architect for their plan, and we can't let him get any further.

I agree folks need to do this. But again, I'm not sure that we'll get anything with respect to contacting Lucas. She has shown where she stands in this war (which we, the fans and alumni, did NOT start). Nevertheless, she should be made aware our preference. I don't know the leanings of Barnes, but we have got to get away from this inbred mess the BOT and higher ups at UAB have established.

Same degree as Shirley Kahn, so I'd put it at $28,000 a month for close friends.

The guy leads off his CV with a grammatical error in the very first sentence. But I do like that he was on the dissertation committee for this offering:

"Understanding the Behaviors of Stealth Applicants in the College Search Process"

To Move Forward, We Had to Change: is this the name of the revisionist Watzi memoir for Ray, complete with a Foreword by Smithers?

I can hear it now, "Come to UAB, where Tuscaloosa is only 40 miles down the road."

It makes you wonder why the guy wants to leave Tuscaloosa when he literally spent most of his life studying or working there. Think he'll just commute from Tuscaloosa? Plus, at his age, he'll likely jump at the chance to head back to the mothership when the top job opens up and take all his UAB info with him.

OK, I am saying this with my tongue slightly implanted in my cheek. But there are certainly red flags considering our treatment by the BOT and current statements about the "purpose" of UAB in the UA system.

Plus, I just like John Fletcher more.
UAB would likely be John T. Fletcher's last stop in his career. Plus, he is just way cooler:

Are we seeing the subversion of UAB through taking over all the important leadership positions in B'ham by Crimson loyalists? There seems to be a similar methodology to this infiltration that we have seen in Mr Putin's technique in the eastern Ukraine.

No doubt there's some of that, and also the classic feedback loop: so many of them have Bammer degrees, they actually think that's a Mark of Quality.

RE: Finalist for UAB VP of Enrollment Bradley Barnes is a Bammer Through-and-Through
Paranoia is a lot of fun. I can even concede that there is a some sort of possibility that every graduate of the UAT has sworn allegiance to a secret society whose only goal is to totally destroy the entire UAB campus and restore UAB to its rightful spot as a branch campus.

However as a college administrator, someone at UAT undergraduate admissions has done a remarkable job of doubling enrolment and increasing the academic standards through out of state students. I actually thought UAT was smoking something when they proposed this strategy but it worked. UABs old financial strategy which successfully built our campus with little debt and still finances athletics was based on reliance of federal medical research dollars whose future now appears to be impaired by political conditions. Our new announced strategy of increasing the undergraduate enrolment particularly by attracting out of state science students will be a similar strategy as UATs.

Give the devil his due it worked at UAT. I have no idea if this candidate had anything to do with UATs success but if he did he might be the best candidate for UABs future. I am for what might actually be best for UAB - not just agree with current board conspiracy. Please flame away

I agree with you, bean. Guys like Witt, PBJ, Fine, Espy, Delchamp, etc really ruin the image of honorable Alabama folks. I don't know Barnes from Adam. If I met him face to face, I wouldn't treat him with the disdain I showed above.

uabbean, I wouldn't have been as concerned if I didn't hear specifically about the culture of smearing UAB that has been cultivated by Barnes' organization at UAT from people who are in a position to comment on this. I find it hard to believe that Barnes will use the tactics UAT Recruiting does against UAB to help UAB, and I wouldn't want UAB to do it anyways.

I was an Orientation Leader for several years, and can verify that I had several students ask me about ridiculous stuff they had heard while visiting the Tuscaloosa campus.

RE: UAB VP of Enrollment Bradley Barnes is a Bammer Through-and-Through (Edit: Official)
When I was a student at UA back in 1960-63, the school's enrollment was reported to be 15,000 while AU had 17,000. Both are now bragging about having 30,000 enrollment. Is doubling enrollment in half a century remarkable? (In 1960 UCLA and Ohio State had 50,000 and UTK had 30,000)

The question about "out of state enrollment" would be, is it a case of "can get" or "must depend upon"? The two BCS state football teams also "can / must" recruit about 80+% of their top recruits from out of state. Is it because they are that attractive or because they can't win as desired using instate talent from public schools suffering declining quality due to declining SETF support (the much ballyhooed 2015-2016 SETF is STILL less than the 2008-2009 SETF)? It only looks good when compared to the DOA 2015-2016 General Fund Budget.
