If waldo was avg. 90% or more attendance the way Lawson does, it would be updated and expanded.

RE: Next in the Bronco Video Series
If someone wants to make a landmark in Kalamazoo like a med school or the Kalamazoo Promise then having your name on a large stadium is one way to do it.

Waldo-Ziegler Stadium
Waldo-Stryker
Waldo-Hayworth

It doesn't matter if it's needed now. It only mattered if someone will back it now, ie the board and administration, a donor, and an athletic department. And it matters if you have someone who can sell the plan.

If those stars are aligned now who would be so stupid as to pass it up until it's truly needed?

With proper marketing you could make it finacially viable NOW.

I'm thinking CD nailed it. You lay out your vision for the future and then operate towards and within that vision. Positivity. Enthusiasm.

PJ came here and said "WE ARE EVOLVING DAMN IT. GET ON BOARD."

Us hard-cores have been yearning for that, even though some didn't fully understand how uncomfortable it would make them.

As for me and my household? We're loving it. 02-13-banana

I agree that obstructing the southeast hill with seating would really detract from Waldo's charm.

But I love the video board idea. And I still think we could easily put ribbon boards across Seelye where the static ads are currently located. If they could pull both of those projects off prior to the MSU game, I'd be extremely happy.

A skywalk across Stadium Dr. has been needed in this community for MANY years... it would not only greatly benefit fans walking to and from Waldo, but could also be a fantastic opportunity for the City and downtown Kalamazoo to fix the age old problem of getting students to walk and bike to and from downtown. Local officials are looking heavily at Stadium Drive right now, so maybe the time is now to strike while the iron is hot.

I'm not sure where this whole process stands, but the city has an interactive map where you can add ideas and comments regarding changes to the Stadium Drive corridor:

Like Tampa Bay, I would LOVE to see a big oversized Row Boat up there that people can get into -- with a saying on the front of it:

"The World Is Your Oyster. How Do You Grab That Oyster In Life? You Get on a Mother F'ing Boat!"

- A new videoboard would be fantastic.
- I've never really cared for our temporary end zone bleachers, especially since the Seeyle Center was built and led to a much nicer set of permanent bleachers on that end zone side. I'm all for some type of permanent set of bleachers being constructed in the other end zone.
- I had never heard of the idea of constructing a crosswalk over Stadium Drive. I like this idea.

Dislikes:
- IMO Waldo is the most beautiful stadium in the MAC. Creating a bowl would obstruct one of the hills and, therefore, greatly reduce Waldo's charm - and to what ends? Which leads to my other dislike...
- ...I may be in the minority, but IMO it makes no sense to add an extra 5-10K seats to Waldo unless we are regularly selling out and there is a clear need for the extra seats (which, as we know right now, is clearly not the case). Drawing a once-every-few-years huge crowd like next year's MSU game does not justify adding what will usually end up being thousands of additional empty seats.

I pretty much agree with this whole post. I love having the hills open to watch the game. I guess if they can pull in 30K plus on a consistent basis then I would be open to it but I don't know if I see that happening with those late November Tuesday night games...

BTW, EMU just knocked off Michigan in basketball!

Per Dave Drew in regards to bowling in the endzone:

Beauregard said that's a long term goal and it is not going to happen any time soon. She said the program has to get to a point with attendance where bowling in that part of the stadium is necessary. She also said the bleachers in that end zone section are something the school is looking at if that project is ever started. They have been there a long time.

Good to hear regarding the bleachers. I look forward to their demolition and renovated end zone seating, whenever it may come.

Maybe it has been covered but if we were ever to "bowl" in Waldo, why wouldn't we just "u or bowl" in the NE and NW corners and leave the SW corner exposed which would retain the uniqueness of the grassy hills? It would then look like a bowl from either direction of Stadium Dr. Just a thought.

Plus the bleachers on the north end and the endzones are not as high as the southern seats.

I am with you here. This seems to be the best as it will allow us to still have an additional 6k on the hills for a big overflow game.

RE: Next in the Bronco Video Series
The entire stadium is bowled in for 8 rows.

That seems small and is, but consider, the non tool shed end of Smelly only has 19 rows, as does the visitors side.

If you take out the scoreboard side bleachers and add 15 rows to what exists in the lower bowl you have 23 rows bowled in. Might add 5000 extra seats total.

The press box side has 55 rows, and the student side has 35 rows. The rendering butts up to the student side so it is showing 35 rows in the bowl. We don't need that much. Like UCLA said, a shorter bowl would be great. In addition, you could bring in portable seating behind it on those few occasions when they might be needed.

I can't imagine that the demo of the bleachers and the addition of 15 rows of steel seating similar to the bleachers on the Seeley end (but filling in the corners) would be that expensive, or even a massive project.

Replacing the bleachers with an all steel structure like the Seeyle side and building a modest restroom / concession building would be a nice improvement.

Thanks CD for that info. I would personally like to see a uniform bowl expansion when the day comes. I really like how symmetrical the small bowl looks right now and I could see it looking good if more rows are added to the existing 8 in a uniformed way.
