Rice vs. WKU (Sunday Game 3)
WKU still has not named a starting pitcher to face off against Blake Fox, but my strong guess is it's going to be diminutive Jr RHP Josh Bartley (5.9", 164 lbs), who got the win on Wednesday vs. Louisville (4.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 1 K), but only threw 45 pitches...and he's been a weekend starter for much of the year...

12 app, 9 starts, 4-3, 43.1 IP, 5.19 ERA, .316 BAA, 19 BBs, 6 HBP, 8 WPs, 20 K

Clearly, a soft-tossing right-hander, the type of pitcher who gives us fits for some strange reason. Strikes out less than 0.5 batters per IP, and has struggled with his control for much of the year (but not against Louisville)....and he's obviously been hit hard and often this year. He's averaging just over 4 innings pitched per start, so expect WKU to go to their bullpen early....

Kevin Elder (RS So, RHP): 13 app, 1-0, 2 saves, 26.2 IP, 1.69 ERA, .174 BAA, 8 BBs, 8 WPs, 26 Ks
Ben Morrison (So, RHP): 15 app, 1-0, 6 saves, 15.1 IP, 2.93 ERA, .231 BAA, 6 BBs, 16 Ks\
Tate Glasscock (RS Sr, RHP): 17 app, 2-1, 1 save, 19.0 IP, 3.79 ERA, .217 BAA, 11 BBs, 23 Ks

Elder went 2.2 IP against us in Game 1 on Friday. All other relievers have high ERAs and BAAs. Note-- the 3 guys most likely to come out of the bullpen today are all right-handed, as is their starter; so expect our left-handed laden lineup.

Let's enter the Finals break on a bit of a mini-roll. MTSU plays a doubleheader today against Marshall. No margin for error. Let's find a way to close this series out. Killer instinct. Go Owls!

Location, location, location. At a certain level hitting your spot is more important than speed. Also movement on your pitches trumps the speed of the pitch. These right handed soft tossers that Rice has traditionally had trouble with were two seam fastball guys with good run on their fastball.

Also, a player's stats tell me what he has done for the season to date or his career. It does not tell me what he can do every time he takes the ball. Believe your eyes. Stats are nice, but they are not the whole story.

Thanks for the heads up on expecting righties on the mound today.

RE: Rice vs. WKU (Sunday Game 3)
As a note, Jeff Luhnow spoke to a Rice sports management/Jones School group a couple of years ago. He talked for quite awhile about statistical analysis and the extensive efforts the Astros make in that area. After he finished with that discussion, he said..."then you get a scout to go watch and see if the prospect can play baseball." I thought that was a very perceptive statement.

I don't see it either David but it does say 2 pm on the schedule (3 pm eastern) so maybe they aren't doing the video live but delaying it?

Site says games with an asterisk (this one) will also be shown "live" streaming. I can't find a link either.

No score going to B1. 2 out double by Kirby is the only noise for the Owls.

Blake walks 2nd hitter and then picks him off before the next pitch.

I've seen more fans at local HS games. Wow.

It was 49F at game time.
