So, I'm no expert on these legal issues, but it seems that Kahn broke the law by 1) not stating her economic interest in the Jordan Alexander jewelry store with her business partner Theresa Bruno on her ethics form and 2) hiring her business partner Bruno without a bid and paying her $730,000 since October.

Does anyone know the legal penalty she could face due to these issues/crimes? Supposedly, these are serious issues, but who is holding her accountable?

The fact that UAB QUICKLY cut ties with Bruno this week is a sign that we hit a huge nerve and potential problem for Kahn. We need to follow up and keep the pressure on. Bruno leaving doesn't erase what Kahn has done.

With this being on the front page of the paper, there is no way they can sweep it under the rug. Of course Kahn is as guilty as Bruno. Her getting canned will be a nice blow to the Pumpkinherad regime too.

I agree. We know the BoT is dirty, and now it appears the UAB admin is dirty as well (more than football/athletics/BoT meddling dirty). I really think Archibald, Whitmire et al are just scratching the surface. This could get really ugly for UAB, and as much as it pains me to say, I hope it does. It would appear that the "good ol boy system" is well developed between UABoT and UAB.
Wouldn't is be ironic if PBJr's personal vendetta against football winds up being the stitch, that once pulled, leads to the whole thing coming apart. This entire situation stinks and the rot needs to be exposed no matter how far it goes...

They sure threw Bruno overboard real quick. That's a good indication we hit a sensitive area. Let's take a look at some of the other contracts Watts has approved during his tenure.

They may have thrown my old classmate (never liked her) overboard: Jim "The Bammer" Bakken answered "no" (and apparently no more than that) to a written question whether she was employed by UAB. We know very well that this administration likes to parse words in a very, very finely chopped manner; that answer doesn't necessarily mean that she isn't still sucking on the public's cash pipeline.

According to Whitmire on Twitter the contract with Thesis Media was ended. However, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a severance clause in there.

That's the pattern. Can't let her keep leeching money, but can cut her a nice severance package.

Especially if she signs an NDA.

She was swallowing additional cash via the Alys Stephens Center and possibly elsewhere. Did those end as well?

I assumed that the Alys Stephens Center fell under the umbrella of working for UAB, but I could be wrong.

He went to medical school at UAB, but to my knowledge was never a doctor there.

Went back and re-read the exact phrasing:

On Thursday, we asked the university whether Bruno was still working for UAB or the Alys Stephens Center.

UAB spokesman Jim Bakken answered that question with a single word.

"No," he wrote.

Bakken also said that the university has hired a permanent associate vice president for the role Bruno had filled since last year. That announcement will be made in the future, he said.

(I do like that last part about the Secret VP.) So UAB and Alys Stephens have pulled out but there's no confirmation whether or not she's still taking it via the back door from Thesis Media .

Looking up that quote reminded me of another curious piece of coincidence: Smithers and Kahn both received their current job titles during the same week in early October 2014: the exact same time that Thesis Media was signed to replace BLR Further.

It's been confirmed by Kyle Whitmire from UAB that Thesis is no longer doing any work for UAB.

Well, good. Not that I'd grant those ads the courtesy title of "work."

You can't extrapolate anything from their statements: they've obviously been given the usual pre-trial prep to answer only exactly what is asked of them and nothing more.
