The Paul Finebaum Show
I was watching his show yesterday and couldn’t believe that he tried to joke with “Alcoholic” Larry about being able to drink 22 bottles of beer in one day at a bar while chasing women. I thought he should have spoken to Larry off the air about rehab and the dangers of driving drunk. However, Finebaum actually attempted to joke with the guy about his drinking problem. Not only was Finebaum not funny, he further perpetuated the southern stereotypical image that is constantly being broadcasted on his show. I couldn’t believe that he would engage in such pointless dialogue with someone that has an obvious addiction instead of discussing SEC sports or trying to help a fellow SEC fan get sober. I was so turned off by the dialogue that I turned the show off. If I were a SEC fan, I would be embarrassed to have this kind of unconscionable content associated with a very promising SECN….

Underdog you have missed my anti Finebaum posts. He is abysmal and I've been against him since he was announced to be headed to the SECN. I am constantly disgusted by him. Many on the board may not know it but Harvey Updike was trying to impress Paul when he poisoned our trees. He is a Tennessee grad that seldom praises his Orange, is adopted by idiot Alabama T shirt fans, and does nothing but muckrake the most ignorant and appalling fans that never attended any of our universities. IMO he is the single biggest fail of the Mike Slive legacy. Every diploma bearing member of the SEC should demand his ouster.

RE: Paul Finebaum Show
The sad thing is he is good for ratings I am sure, which is why ESPN will keep him on the SEC network. His show does give the SEC and the South a black eye with the type of callers and content that show delivers. That show just reinforces so many negative stereotypes held by other conferences/parts of the country about SEC fans/the South it is ridiculous. I can't imagine the B1G or PAC ever allowing something like the Finebaum Show on their networks. I am amazed the SEC allowed this, unless they have no or very little say about actual SECN content. The SEC really should step in and work on ESPN to drop that show.

I've never understood how he came to represent the SEC.

I can't believe the SEC even allows him 4 hours to constantly display poor examples of SEC fans and the south to the nation. My interactions with JRsec compelled me to start watching his show so that I could learn more about the SEC (there aren't many SEC fans here). I was expecting to hear educated SEC fans like JRsec. Instead, I've been very disappointed with many of the callers on his show. He obviously doesn't screen his callers—like “Alcoholic” Larry that I mentioned in the first post who sounded drunk while attempting to articulate himself on the air and IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE NATION. Finebaum’s air time should be cut in half… which is still probably “2” much….

Those "callers" actually have a direct line to his show. If you or I tried to call his show. We would never make it on the air.

Finebaum can get a whole lot worse than that and usually does.

Yep. The only thing he remembers from journalism school at UT was the paragraph about muckraking.

Easiest way to fill hours of content that would normally cost a ton more to come up with original programming or reruns. It's simply the best bang for the buck when it comes to ratings in the dead season. Besides, it's pretty entertaining during football season when fans come on the air following a weekend of football.
