They cite the plummeting Euro as the culprit.

Sounds like a ploy to get money from the government.

Nope, Europe is in real trouble. Greece is on the edge of collapse again. If their banking system falls apart the entire continent will follow behind.

Check The Spin Room ... there is a very real shot that in order to form a coalition to govern, the conservatives will need UKIP. And that means a public vote on EU membership for the UK before Christmas 2015.

So the UK may escape. And nordic countries with much oil will be fine. And if the Germans decide they want to stop paying for everything they'll be fine.

The UK isn't on the Euro.

We are heading back again to Ireland next April. The dollar will do well this time against the Euro, giving tourists more bang for their buck.

They aren't in the currency, but they are subject to all EU regulation, immigration (open borders), and pay millions of pounds Sterling a year in membership dues.

True. But a weak Euro would reduce labor costs elsewhere, thus driving down unemployment. I would imagine that strong Euro is what would drive immigration into the UK. Regardless, much of the rest (i.e. free trade) is actually pretty good.

Nope. Free schools. Free healthcare. Free pensions. Free welfare. Eastern Europe is pouring into the richer parts of the EU through the EU open borders.

That's old news. We're talking about marginal changes.

Ireland is also getting lots of Eastern European immigrants as an EU country with a good economy recovering nicely from the idiocy of the government assuming the $80 billion Euro debt (causing/foisting an austerity program on its 4.6 million citizens) of Anglo-Irish Bank.
