Maybe if he intends to return, he's preserving eligibility and leverage for next year's draft? Wouldn't he be ineligible for a medical redshirt if he pitches this season? If he redshirts this year, he goes into next season as a sophomore and then could keep his leverage with teams that might draft him, right?

+1. Talking to his Mom and Dad last week I got every impression he's definitely coming back next year; whether or not he returns to the mound this season.
