realignment just for fun
ok, here are the rules to this game. you need to realign the P5 conference schools + ND + BYU into 6 conferences and no state can have more than 1 school in the same conference. so for example the 4 California P5 schools need to be split up between 4 different conferences. here is my first draft

PAC
Cal, Ore., Wash, Ariz, Utah, Col, Texas, Ok, Neb, Iowa, Kan

West
UCLA, Ore. St., Wash St., Ariz St, BYU, TT, Ok St, , Kan. St, Mizzou, Iowa st, Arky

privates (or close enough)
USC, TCU, ND, NW, Vandy, Wake, BC, Cuse, Pitt, Miami, Lou

north
Minn, Wisc, ILL, Mich, Oh St, Pur, Penn St, Rut, MD, Duke, Va,

south
Tex A&M, LSU, Miss, Tenn, Ky, Bama, Ga, Fl, S. Car, UNC, VT

coastal
Stan, Baylor, Miss St., Auburn, FL St, GT, Clem, NCSU, WV, Mich St, Indy

It would be simpler to just divide California into 4 different states.07-coffee3

I think the 3 service academies, Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Houston, UCF, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Northern Illinois and some others could help spread the schools from the same state around.

You have 5 Texas schools in the P5 conferences and you said split all the schools from the same states into separate conferences. That would mean you need 5 conferences instead of 4 to have all Texas schools in separate conferences.

yes, you have 6 total conferences to choose from. So if say we added Houston to this fun exercise, that would make it even harder, cause then you would have to split 6 schools into 6 different conferences

If I were to take my example to 72:
Conference 3 adds Colorado State and Boise State
Conference 4 adds Temple and Cincinnati
Conference 6 adds Tulane and Memphis

That's reserved for Texas, which has the right to do that (five actually). That said, create that proposed state of Jefferson in the north, make the Bay Area and Modesto/Stockton its own state called Golden Gate, make a dividing line somewhere north of Bakersfield for SoCal and let the rest be called California. As it currently stands, it's a bunch of states in one anyways.
