He (and myself) will look like a midget on the court.

clever little lefty pg. still pretty young and not perfect but certainly has the ability to be quick and smart with the dribble and pass. pretty deep range on his jumper but not sure what his % is.

Some interesting stories about that school. Came from nearly nowhere. No real history in basketball. Fun reads. PLUS they're in Mexican Town, one of my favorite day trips. It will be less than an hour drive for his family.

PG Brailen Neely Offered for 2016 Class
It's one of the many charter high schools that have sprung up in and around Detroit in the last 10 to 15 years

They play in the Public School League (PSL), but the various new schools have some sort of sponsor. So, at least the schools resemble charter schools rather than the "traditional" public high school. In most cases, the, what I'll call charter schools, have a 200 to 800 students where the traditional PSL high schools have well over 1,500 students.
(remember: the definition and/or the qualifications of a charter school can vary from state to state and town to town.)
(remember #2: I live in Michigan and have heard the schooling set up discussions in the news and by my state government.)

I think you're confusing the definitions "charter" and "magnet" (in any state or town) but Detroit Western Int is neither.
Detroit has a ton of public charter schools: Detroit Western Int, is not one of them.
DPS, like TPS does have charter schools it authorizes (oversees). Detroit Western is not one of them.
It is not Cristo Rey, Montessori, Small Schools, or Vocational.
Detroit Western Int is an over 100 year old traditional zoned DS public school with an enrollment of about 1300 kids. That is what made their run historic, having no real history beyond the recent, in basketball. Beating a traditional power like Arthur Hill made the story even sweeter.

With a returning sophomore PG and an incoming freshman PG, it's highly unlikely that we were still recruiting this kid. Three point guards in three straight classes makes no sense.

since the number of high schools in Detroit has doubled in recent years I confused one with many of those with that has the combination of names. I did know that West whatever it is, is not a traditional sports power in Detroit PSL like Cass Tech, King, Cooley, Southwestern, etc......

some of the larger poorly funded public high schools have closed. a bunch of small new charter schools have sprung up. mostly staffed by low paid less trained more inexperienced teachers and administrators. western has been around for a while, but most sports fans wouldn't have noticed.

Well I'll tell you DPS did a whole heck of a lot better on their rebuilds and remodels than did TPS. Western Int, sits in a neighborhood as downtrodden as any in Toledo and they're a neighborhood (not magnet) school with excellent academic, athletic and community facilities sending robotics teams to national competitions, while ours are.....

they do some good things in detroit w public education. generally, the charter schools are less effective and community connected than the traditional schools.
TPS has had a lot more failings. i went to an excellent TPS non-district school by Scott for elementary until it was closed by TPS, even though it was at the forefront of educational practice, had high expectations and results and was multiracial. then, went to a TPS high school that was closed while less effective TPS schools stayed open. then, my daughter went to a good TPS elementary that had most of it's effective innovative programs gutted to save money. TPS is very good and cutting the schools and programs that make sense and keeping the crappy ones going.
