Josh Pastner on @Sports56WHBQ: "If we went 40-0 and won the national championship, people would still knock me for something."

Why don't we find out if this is the truth or just Pastner conjecture?

Hey we go 40-0 I think JP can say or do whatever he damn well pleases. He'll OWN Memphis. No questions asked.

As opposed to the 40-0 comment, this is good.

Recruiting winners helps you win. I can get behind that logic.

There were "fans" who called quarterback Lynch "garbage" during mid-season. Yea, you better believe there would be some who would find something to ***** about if we went 40-0.

I was calling Lynch names during the bowl game. The guy's a player but he's also a freaking turnover machine.

Absolutely.

And honestly, if we were 4-0 and played Northwest Eastern Southern Texas Technical A&M with an RPI of 451 and won 63-59 and needed a 6 point run to close it, I might complain out of concern.

I would then, of course feel like an idiot if we went 40-0.

But that is cool, I often feel like an idiot.

Oh and LOL at Pastner. Ducks the end of season interview only to pop up running his mouth on Sports 56 a month later.

We have a decent roster next year.

No reason we can't win next year. None.

I think he's feeling the pressure and I don't think he will handle it well. That's my opinion. He's a lame duck coach and in a tough spot.

I wouldn't say finished either but it's the bottom of the 9th we are two runs down there are 2 outs and Mariano Rivera is pitching

Josh is talking to the vocal minority.

Which is sad.

For a guy who preaches positivity as much as he does to always be sending jabs to his critics seems to ring untrue.

Interesting.

There will always be complaints. It's a question of volume and number.

If JP went 40-0 there would be complaints, some people do like to complain.

I would venture a guess I won't be one of them, but hey, it's possible.

Beer at the FXF would probably go up to $10.

Eh. I think he knows he has to win to keep his career in the fast lane and he's going to work awfully hard. The guy has work ethic and honor.

I think he just might surprise all of us. That's what I'm hoping.

Despite what some people think, I'm rooting for him to do well. He is likable. I think most of us want the best for him, just not at the expense of the program.

Hey, we're going to find out. Push the chips in and deal.

$2.65 Million sounds like we're already all in. I'd say it's more like time for someone to show their cards.

Obvious JP is feeling the pressure with such unproductive comments - and others he made after several of last season's failures. But I think that comes with JP's personality where he has been able to control most everything going on around him - and making everything right by working harder & longer than others. He can't now & lacks the skills necessary to make winners out of the talent he recruits. Time & hard work can't make up for lack of coaching skills - they are learned by experience over a number of years by someone with the ability to listen & learn from others.

The quote is a classic and oft used deflection. "I am going to be criticized no matter what, so I should not pay attention to the criticism." While true, that a Basketball Coach will be criticized no matter what, there still exists a gulf between being criticized by a small minority of fans during a 40-0 title run* Pastner's weak hypothetical. And being criticized for a completely mediocre (being kind) season, in which numerous flaws warranted criticism. As others have stated here, it is becoming more and more obvious, Pastner's complete inability for honest self-evaluation choosing to rather depend on the "power of positive thinking" is a fatal flaw for our team and potentially his career.

Minority? I think not. More than half of tiger fans want him gone.
