Jesus Christ, you guys are so far off base it's not even funny. The irony is so thick on these statements you couldn't cut it with a knife.
The problem isn't with the dance team, it's you.
Count me in with Clifton and Bruce.
I respect your opinion, but I maintain my stance that you guys know nothing about dance teams and have completely sexualized it in your own mind.
really?!?!
When one see's a good looking girl twerking it's sexual. It's not asexual and only 'sexualized' in the minds of some.

Ha! Sexualized in their own minds? Dude. Come on.
I don't have daughters but when we go to games and they do routines that look like interviews to be a pole dancer, I understand why the folks that do have young daughters might get squeamish.
I mean, I guess I can see why people might be uncomfortable with children, but we had one guy say that young ladies (19-23?? Not good enough to be women apparently) shouldn't be doing this and we have you and Clifton saying they are strip club routines in a booty obsessed culture.
So yeah, that sounds ridiculous. If you watch the dance team and think about strip clubs, then yeah, the problem is you.
I am a big fan of cheer and dance, and even I can concede that there are occasional suggestive moves sprinkled in. It is far from dominant though. My only concern as a father of is costuming, which in my opinion is the source of any sexualized/body image concern.
Not too long ago yoga pants were a bit revealing for public, now everyone seems to think they're just pants.
I bet there are even some posters here that remember Elvis having his hips cut off of the telecast!
Congrats to the dance team. They represented the university and brought home a championship. I'm sure everyone on this board knows how many championships UC has collected over the years in all sports. The list isn't very long so adding another is impressive.
There is an interesting correlation between the "hot takes" on the dancing and the cost of attending UC thread. The more you are threatened by how another adult chooses to dance the more likely you also proudly announced UC only cost $300/quarter back in your day.
The only bunch at UC which actually brings home the hardware on a regular basis, and some people are carping about the propriety of their dance moves. Give me a break.
I know most of you are being funny with the UK and Geno comparisons, but aren't the Bearcats only competing against like 5 other teams in the hip hop category each year?
I'm glad they're on top; don't get me wrong. It's better than finishing in any other position. And I hope they continue to bring home the title year after year.

Since they "Dance" at the Shoe why not hang a banner to them?

Pretty sure all school wishing to participate have to send in a video to qualify. The top 16-20 or so schools are invited to perform. The prelims then whittle it down to the top 8 for finals, which is all that gets reported in the results or televised. That is what makes the field look small, but it really is a national competition.

The initial competition within CheerUSA is open to all organizations and schools that wish to compete within the US. What the Dance Team won was International which had over 70 nations present. Well more than any competition any of our basketballers or footballers have to deal with.
As the father of two terrific young women (an engineer and a digital marketing analyst) I would not be in any way offended or concerned with any of the moves, costumes or actions of the UC dance team. And yes, I started at UC way back in 1980. Anyone who watches this group of high talent athletes, fully clad in sweaters and pants BTW, and had anything related to sex inspired thoughts has a personal issue. The moves displayed represent the hip hop dance culture, rhythmic movement and a huge amount of coordination, energy and choreography. I would challenge anyone who thinks otherwise to try and replicate any 30 second portion of the UC routine clothed however you want to be.
FWIW, the UC ladies also won the Team Pom routine against an equally impressive international field. This time costumed in traditional super short cheerleading skirts but with equally impressive choreography, coordination and energy. The UC Dance team is a consistently talented group every bit as dedicated to their craft and their sport as any other athlete at UC. Give them the props they deserve and embrace their dominance of their sport

Wow, ashamed to say I misread the bolded text the first time through.

So long as I have the mute button, that's a welcome video. Not sure why the tone deaf, down syndrome trodden, "vocalists" and the plastic "beats" get the posteriors shaking but at least it's a bright spot on an otherwise cloudy day.
These videos have had over 53,000 and 17,000 views respectively on YouTube. These dedicated young ladies are wonderful representatives of both the USA and UC. The coaches and team are very well respected in the dance community.
Coaching the UC Dance team is a "part time" position....so the Head Coach has another full time job as an Accountant...

Thank you for starting what I was trying to in 100x a better, more rational way.
It's hard to say I blame anyone for making terrible assumptions about dance teams in general, but that doesn't make it any less annoying to see adults figuratively wag their finger at something they don't understand nor have ever tried to.
